if u really want the 'best' digicams, you will have to spend around 400 or up. but 200-300 can definitly get u a nice one. for style, go for sony or some other brands. otherwise, canon/nikon cams are good, so look into it. what are u looking for in a cam?

Sony is not good. They only use their OWN memory card. Only Sony computers have a card reader for it, and only sony products can use the that memory card.

Canon uses the SD memory card which is pretty universal(since majority of brands use this as well). Plus, this memory card is cheaper.

I would recommend looking into Canon. THey have really nice ones for cheap now.

Same here. Sony doesn't always need it's brand for various things.

If you're interested in cameras with great modes, I say go for Lumix.
Excellent qualities. But as for myself, I have a sony DSC-T10 and it's alright.
Pretty handy to me. But yeah, if you're willing to buy a sony you'd probably pay around $300-400 USD

Hope you get the camera you're looking for ^-^

Not true.. Sony has their own type of memory card but other companies like SanDisk make them too. And my computer is not a Sony but it has a built in reader for Sony Memory Stick and Pro. I hope you're not arguing for Canon simply because they use SD. Canon does use other types of memory such as CompactFlash as well. SD is generally the cheapest though.

But anyway, most people are going to recommend a Canon camera, I guess.. I suggest you do some research on individual cameras. Some other brands may make equally good cameras. It all depends what you want in your camera, fast lens, good battery life, wide-angle, large zoom, manual controls, digital features, etc. Some Kodak cameras will give you a wide-angle lens. Some Panasonic cameras will give you 10x optical zoom. Some Sony cameras will give you manual controls. Some Canons will give you unique digital editing features. Some Nikons will give you MP3 functionality. Just to give you an idea...

canon's sd700 and sd800 costs virtually the same price. sd700 costs 299.99 at dell and sd800 costs 308.00 so yea.. I recommend the sd800 you get the best of both worlds, large lcd and manual controls needed to take good photos.

SD800 or the A640/A710 are all great cameras but the SD800 is a compact camera while the A-series are all semi-compact. But if you want a lot of Manual control and still be cheap, get an A series but if you are a point and shoot person. A SD-series camera is great.

I would go for:

Canon PowerShot A630 (I like their LCD screen)
-or-
Pentax Optio W20 (watrerproof camera n_n!)

From what I read, I think both of them the image quality is pretty good~
