Sony is not good. They only use their OWN memory card. Only Sony computers have a card reader for it, and only sony products can use the that memory card.
Canon uses the SD memory card which is pretty universal(since majority of brands use this as well). Plus, this memory card is cheaper.
I would recommend looking into Canon. THey have really nice ones for cheap now.
Not true.. Sony has their own type of memory card but other companies like SanDisk make them too. And my computer is not a Sony but it has a built in reader for Sony Memory Stick and Pro. I hope you're not arguing for Canon simply because they use SD. Canon does use other types of memory such as CompactFlash as well. SD is generally the cheapest though.
But anyway, most people are going to recommend a Canon camera, I guess.. I suggest you do some research on individual cameras. Some other brands may make equally good cameras. It all depends what you want in your camera, fast lens, good battery life, wide-angle, large zoom, manual controls, digital features, etc. Some Kodak cameras will give you a wide-angle lens. Some Panasonic cameras will give you 10x optical zoom. Some Sony cameras will give you manual controls. Some Canons will give you unique digital editing features. Some Nikons will give you MP3 functionality. Just to give you an idea...
