I don't know how UBC works, but here in america you have to fail the class, not just an exam...
It's just up to you to study and pay attention, really. Not much we can do!

- if you have an average of your winter term 1 final grades of 45%-54.9% with no previous background with academic probation, then you will put on academic probation for the next term, but you'll still be eligible to continue, it's just that you need to improve your mark to be at least 55% for winter term 2 or you will be kicked out.
- if you have an average of below 45% then you're required to withdraw
- if your average [winter term 1 final grades] is above 55%, then you'll be eligible to continue.
that's pretty general and it's based on min. 12 credits.. but individual faculties may differ.
what faculty are you in?.. i know for sure that sauder's different, 'cause it's required to have 65% average on core courses and 60% on total average in order for you to be able to continue into second year comm. and they have these regulations of whether you can proceed to second year comm, hafta switch faculties, or are unable to continue at UBC overall, etc.
if you do well on your other two finals... you shouldn't be kicked out, unless you're like... failing most if not all your other courses. i think the worse that can happen is academic probation, which is basically a warning for a term.
good luck on your remaining finals, you can do it! =]
.EDIT.
oOo, really? for UBC?
'cause last year my friend failed pretty much all his finals and he's still at UBC lol. sciences too. and he didn't get put on a.p.
it's 'cause he did really well on his midterms so he decided ta slack and thought finals would be okay.. so he didn't study AT ALL. therefore he failed 'em. his average was still okay though, brought it down, but nowhere near academic probation.

I thought it all depends on your final grade in order to get a a.p. or not. Most schools anyway.

CanŽt you retake the exams when you fail?
I have NEVER heard of that...
Well, I had a friend who was put on academic probation at Irvine. He had like an overall semester GPA of a low 1.something. He barely attended class, I think he actually MISSED completely a midterm or final... what -AngelzKiss- said seems pretty accurate. If you do well in your other classes, the two bad classes and two good classes might work to even out your overal GPA... How important are the finals for these classes? Are they worth 50% of the grade, the whole grade, or just like 20%? Failing a 20% final won't kill you... unless you've been failing everything else as well.
The worst that could happen IS academic probation. If you've been on probation before though, the consequences get more serious. And if you're currently ON probation, well then you'll get kicked out of school.
If you have scholarships though, you might have to kiss them goodbye. Scholarships usually require at LEAST a 2.0~2.5 GPA for you to keep them... the minimum GPA's go up to 3.5.
I'm not sure if you can use the work card to bargain with the school...

I have NEVER heard of that...
In Estonia we are allowed to retake the exam before the end of semestre but If you still fail you have to take the class again or if you fail one in one of your main subjects(after doing exam and retaking it) than it means youŽll drop out.

at UCI the policies differ from teacher to teacher, but in general the school policy is that no student is allowed to retake the final exam. the weight of the final on a student's grade varies, but in general it's about 40-60%. however, it's at the instructor's discretion to assign different weights to different exams.

Just concentrate on the rest of your exams!
In the event that you actually do fail, in this case one or two is alright, but if your CGPA is lower tahn a certain level, you will be placed in probationary standing, which basically limits the amount of credits you can take next term until your GPA gets back up to a satisfactory standing again. There is always summer school if you need to catch up on some prerequisites, I'm not sure whether UBC has defferal/supplemental exams, but most Prereq courses do, so you don't have to go to class all over again.
Just, don't worry about it, and study hard for the remaining exams!

Don't worry too much about your finals, they are almost always scaled (especially for first year math and sciences)... my 20% on my Calculus final somehow became a 62% (i'm at McGill), so as long as you are not in the bottom 20% of the class, you should be just fine.
Just concentrate on the rest of your exams!

If you don't do as well as you think this term, just work harder next term because there's no point in dwelling about it now. Especially get help from the profs / TAs

- Then make an appointment with you Professors and talk to them; this won't change the grade you'll get but
they can give you an idea where you stand (if you're really gonna fail the class or not).
- Then talk to your college advisor/counselor. This way they'll know your concerns, and can give you advice
on what you should do, if you can make an appeal or not, steps you can take to prevent from getting "kicked
out of school."
The key is to communicate (explain your situation, how things came about, and whatnot) and not just keep on thinking about your predicament. Thinking and anticipating by yourself won't solve your problem, plus it'll just stress you out. It might be scary and embarassing to talk about it face-to-face, but you'll just have to be brave.
Good luck to you!

Wow...I hope that's what's gonna happen in my stat final...I think I did REALLY bad on that one. But I didn't do bad going into the final though...but I can pass the course for sure since the final is 45% of your grade.

I know if you fail a few classes in a year, you can talk to the dean and see what they can do about it (let you retake the course), but your course work isn't 100% based on the finals
Some people I know, know people who were put on probation after failing their courses, so they just have to work their butts off the next year so they don't get kicked out of uni
