but ok i want to transfer out of my school, do they still care about your high school grades?
i graduated high school with a 1.7 GPA (shameful), well i think its a 1.7 cause my school did it by 1-100, and i got a 73 by graduation
im in my first year at my university, i didnt get my grades yet, but im assuming i have a C+/B average, do they care more about the hs or college transcript?

well...they do look at hs grades. but the more courses you take in college...the more weight will go
toward the college's ones.
if you're 1st year...i suggest waiting another year, try your best and then apply.
good luck~

Sarangie, why do you suggest waiting until sophomore year to apply as a transfer? Personally, I think that applying during sophomore year (meaning that you wouldn't transfer schools until fall of junior year) makes it more difficult to graduate on time? Or maybe that just depends on the school you go to and how courses overlap along with distribution requirements, etc.

^ colleges look at your hs transcript more if you are applying in freshmen year since there isnt enough grades to judge you by.
agreed..
--smile,
i applied during my first AND second year. but didn't get accepted to any school in my first try.
just one semester doesn't get through, unless you have 4.0+ GPA during your hs.
and also 4.0 in one semester of college..
personally, i'm ok with graduating in my 5th year...
plus people nowadays do graduate in 5th or 6th year..due to major + miner/second major.
also, it's really up to individuals, if they want to graduate on time (4 years).
but i think it's possible.
one of my friends who transferred last year, is graduating this year in spring.

i'm surprised you got into an university with 1.7...usually the cut-offs are much higher...

I was referring to colleges looking mostly at your college transcript if you transfer after your first year. I transferred in my sophomore year and I don't really remember them asking about my high school transcript, either. But, yes, graduation time really is a personal preference.
All together, college apps aren't fun at all. Especially the second time around. Sarangie, did you apply to a lot of schools your first time? It gets competitive to transfer, especially if aiming for a harder school since there are even fewer spaces available.
I hope you're having a good time at your current school!

which school do you go to now? and what year?
i totally agree with you about the whole app process..
it was a pain in the neck...for me at least.
yeah, i did apply to many schools, compared to other people..i think.
'cus i really wanted to get out of my old school
on my second time, the chances were definitely higher
like you said...it's really competitive.
and the percentage of getting accepted as a transfer is so so so small.

If you apply for state college, they usually dont require you send in your HS transcript.

one of the colleges i applied to asked me to send my first semester grades when they're ready...so im just wondering are they gonna base it just on my first semester grades, or first and second?
i dont really wanna wait another year to transfer...i hate this school...its right across the street from my high school i wanna get away
im suprised i got into a uni with 1.7 too, but i did fairly well junior/senior year, it was only sophomore year that i got horrible grades
im in school in the city right now, im planning to transfer to a school where i can dorm but some of my friends up there are hating it, so if i happen to hate it (assuming i get in in the first place), then i might transfer back to the city...any advice on that?
thanks for the replies, i thought this would be a dead topic

this is only my experience...so schools may vary. hope this helps~
when i applied, i had to submit the 1st semester.
this is because the schools will start reviewing the transfer apps in spring time.
By end of your spring semester, they MAY/MAY NOT ask for your 2nd semester.
i'm not sure, 'cus they didn't ask mine.
they only asked for 2nd semester's after i got in.
and velocitii,
i totally feel your pain. my high school was farther away from my home than my previous college.
it was like going to hs again. all my friends were there...so it wasn't that bad. but still it didn't feel like "college".
FYI, all the transfer apps will be reviewed AFTER the freshmens' (since that's the most important group).

Daisy: Yes, I agree that you do need your high school transcript, especially if applying to a private institution. All the schools I applied to were private and they required that. I applied to 8 schools to transfer. There was a mix up from my high school sending my high school transcript to the universities. By the time decisions came around, I was notified by the schools that they did not have my high school transcript on file, just my college transcript, and I was admitted anyway. This is most likely an unusual circumstance. Although, I'm inclined to believe that a college would look more closely at your college transcript even after only one semester. The high school transcript would then just provide some of your academic history, right?
Velocitii: When I transferred, I had to submit my second semester grades, as well. I think that colleges ask for that, like they do in high school for your second semester, to make sure you're not slacking off? That's just an assumption. Depending on the school you apply to, most transfer decisions have already been made by the time second semester grades are ready. So I would assume they mostly weigh your acceptance on your first semester grades.
As for transferring back to the city if your new school doesn't work out, I would say keep an open mind. Don't go to your new school keeping in mind what your friends have told you. You want the experience to be unique to you. What doesn't work for someone else isn't necessarily true for another person. Also, get a sense of what your university is about. Get involved, go to parties, join clubs, take in the whole college experience. If you really don't like it, then I'm sure transferring back won't be much of an issue. By the way, what school do you go to now and where are you looking to transfer to? Good luck with everything!
