I think it's a worse feeling when you get a 54.8% and the prof gave you a D (fail) and not a C (pass). Because that would mean you taking the course all over again (or at least doing a supplementary examination), AND you'd be behind on prerequisites, AND it would most likely mean summer school.
I agree, its like a domino effect.

Is when you end with a 89.8% and your professor won't give you an A...
if the class has an absolute grading scale, then it's too bad for you.

54.8% is NOWHERE near a C...you should be HAPPY that you didn't get an F...

i'll tell you that for chem courses, General Chemistry, an A would probably be lower 90% for the semester; for Organic, it is like mid to upper 80s for an A.
A 4.0
A- 3.7
B+ 3.3
B 3.0
B- 2.7
C+ 2.3
C 2.0
C- 1.7
D+ 1.3
D 1.0
most schools like this, yes?

Our grade terms are lower
89.8% is really hard to get over here, very very hard.
A - 70% and over
B - 60%
C - 50%
D - 40%
Fail - Under 40%
or something like that.
I heard we have like a different marking scheme after getting 75, after 75, your mark becomes standardised, i.e. you get less than you actually get, like if you got 90, it'll drop down to like 80-85 which is harsh, an 100 you get between 87 - 93 (these are rough estimates).
Its beacuse you CAN get 100% in a maths exam, but you can't really get 100% in an english or law paper right?
so they standardise them and make it "fit in" with the others

Nice! Thats what I usually get now.
The worse feeling is actually the realization that your last 4 report cards had nothing above a B.

Ok, Here's my situation this semester.
I received 89% overall grade; which can be changed to A,
If I were to received 4 more points!!! out of 500.
Which isn't really a big deal in my opinion anyways, i emailed, left her message and she said "I can't give any favoritism over other students.."
##cking bs!!
We dont get + -'s.. which meaning i would get 3.0.
Damn, ive' worked hard in that class and just threw me out the door.

you could try to request a remark for one of your assignments and hopefully your percentage will go up slightly, or at least not fall by a lot
