I've only applied to Emory University so far, but I know its not practical to only apply to one college. The colleges I have in mind are Johns Hopkins University, Cornell and GA Tech. Could I get some outside opinions on if I have the potential to get in? I don't want to waste money applying to schools that are too far of a reach, so please, be brutally honest.
High School Senior
GPA: 93.211, 3.9
SAT: Reading 670, Math 660, Writing 620.
AP classes: AP Human Geography, AP World History, AP Physics B, AP US History, AP Language and Composition, AP Psychology, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, AP Language Arts II, AP Calculus BC.
Extracurriculur activities: Literary Magazine (Jr. Editor), Science National Honor Society, Latin National Honor Society, Junior Classical League, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Math Team, History Club, Key Club, Student Government Association, International Club, Academic Team.
Honors/Awards: Georgia Junior Humanities and Symposium presenter, Magna Cum Laude on National Latin Examination for 2 years, District Winner of National Piano Playing Competition, National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine attendee, Various school awards for violin, Gifted program at 2nd grade, Skipped 4th grade.
I know the laundry list of extracurriculur activities harms you in the application process, so I'm only including the 4-5 that really matter.
Also, all other core classes that were not AP were Gifted, which is the highest obtainable course if APs are not offered.

i think everything is good but your sat scores will hurt you, especially for johns hopkins & cornell. its too late to retake another test (unless your schools accept jan. scores) so if theres a reason why you didn't do so great compared to your rigorous ap schedule & high gpa, explain it in your application and write some awesome essays. gluck.
btw, which school is your safety?

I actually haven't chosen a safety yet. I think Oxford or UGA will do it though.

your SAT is pretty low, and what did you get in those AP classes, 4s and 5s? i agree w/ the other person that you should pick a few safeties..

If the GPA is weighted, then there might be trouble. The SAT is not great. Choosing Oxford University as a safety is definitely not the way to go.

So it doesn't even matter that I gained leadership positions in clubs, got plenty of volunteer credit, and worked hard this semester to pull up my GPA? SATs really matter that much?
Man thats harsh.
