I GOT ACCEPTED TODAY!!! TO JOHNS HOPKINS!!!
I think your SAT scores and high school gpa matters the most
I will be going to Johns Hopkins University. My GPA was good, a 4.0. My SAT scores weren't amazing...I got 740 on math, 650 on critical reading, and 690 on writing. I had a lot of volunteer hours though, so I think you should work on getting some hours in if you haven't. As far as extracurricular activities are concerned, I didn't really have amazing ones. Also, I'm not sure if this helped me in my acceptance, but I went to JHU's Pre-College Program over the summer. Anyway, best of luck to you! :]
hmm
do you know about approximately how many hours?
and what kinds of actiities and volunteer work did you do?
and what about your sat IIs? which ones did you take, what aps did you take, etc.
sorry, but i really wanna go to this school in a year or so

i go here and ive talked to a lot of people about how they think they got in and...well...the extra curricular stuff seems really overrated. noone really did much. haha. i persoally did a crapload of stuff, but whatever. just do well in school and if you really want to come to jhu, then ED because it's like so easy to get in with ED. haha.
Yeah, last year 6 people from my school EDed and 5 got in.

Don't be sorry!
I've been volunteering at a nursing home every week, or I try to, ever since ninth grade. When I go I usually stay for about 2 hours. I've also organized groups for painting houses for the disabled, and have tutored kids for a while. I think you should show that you have leadership in some way because colleges in general seem to like that :]
As for my SAT IIs...I didn't do too well on them. I got 670 on Spanish, 670 on Mathematics Level II, and 620 on Literature.
At school, I'm in Spanish Honor Society, Math Honor Society, and National Honor Society. I'm not in many clubs- I'm in Orchestra Council, PAS Club (reading to elementary school students), and Math Team. I've taken 8 AP courses, including this year. I took AP World History, AP Spanish, AP English 11, AP US History, AP Biology, AP Government, AP English 12, and AP Calculus BC. Oh, and I didn't send in my AP scores :] Haha, so I don't think it's very important. I pretty much only take AP courses to boost my GPA...Haha.
A big help is applying Early Decision! Try to get everything done by September, October at the latest.

It's just the med school that's really selective.
Either way, it'll probably be one of my top college choices when I'm a senior. (If I can get some scholarship money that is. xD)

My cousin told me that JH is really easy to get accepted too.

couldn't it be possibly easier
to go there for undergraduate program and then just move up into the medical school?

yeah im pretty sure that it'll be easier for current JH students to get into the medical school than for transfer students to get in
thats why i'm going to Johns Hopkins for undergraduate also!

and COrnell....
for a good chance, u need
2100+ SAT score
Gpa of at least 3.8 unweighted
two or three extra cirriculars that u are DEVOTED DEVOTED DEVOTEd to
and at least 200 hours of community service

I hereby declare.... I am part of the solution. As long as I wear this ribbon in my signature, I will care for the environment. Together, we can fight global warming.

what kind of scores/resume did you have?
I had a 2190 SAT: 770 math, 700 reading, 720 writing
SAT subject test math level 2: 760
Korean with listening: 800
4.0 gpa
Key Club president, Pack Leader, NHS member, full IB diploma candidate, church community service (i play the piano for the church), piano lessons and competition awards, National Art Honor Society member
and I could have sent my ACT score if I wanted, which was a 30
but I really think that Johns Hopkins cares most about the rigor of your high school classes, your gpa or ranking, and your SAT scores
but anyways best of luck for you!

that would actually be if you applied ED. they're acceptance rate ED is RIDICULOUS lol. but regular is still as selective as the ivyies. boooooo lol

yeah joonage is right. general admissions into JHU is pretty easy (if i remember correctly in 2003 general admission into undergrad was with a GPA avg of 3.7). i saw people with 3.5 get accepted from my school. to answer truexskills question, yes the whole purpose of going to JHU for most is to move into the med school but i believe the med school acceptance rate is somewhre around 10%. so its not that easy to just move in and also you are at competition with lots of pre-med students from other top notch universities. my facts arent solid but this is what i rmember when i was looking at colleges
out of all the ivy leagues, cornell also has one of the higher acceptance rates. their food is the best. you get lobster for dinner.

maybe i'm a bit biased in what i say, but our med school isn't all that's famous. ranked #1 for bme, around #2 for international relations, and one of the top for writing seminars. not to mention that we have about a 95% percent acceptance rate into med schools.
and yes jhu does accept more students from their own undergrad than any other single school. it's about 20 a year. when they say 10%, it means 10% of their med school class. lol. so yes it is extremeeeeely competitive.
