i'm a sophomore at a cc in california and i'm planning on majoring in communications.
i've talked with my counseler, and she said the major communication is such a broad field that i should go into journalism, PR, theory, or creative writing...my question is, which schools in CALIFORNIA specialize in those majors? i'm thinking of CSUF or UCLA so far...it would be great if someone who is majoring and attending that school can help me out here.

I don't think UCLA has a com program, but I could totally be wrong.
USC does and it's pretty well known.

Sorry to say it though, but the best colleges with actual communications schools aren't in California...Top 3 are Syracuse (newhouse school) in new york, BU (college of communication) and Emerson-which is a specialty school for communications/theater, both in boston
In no particular order, btw.

What school you go to does not matter but obviously going to a more reputable Uni gives you a better looking CV. So going to UCLA to do the course isnt a bad idea even though it might not have the best faculty in that area. My 1cent anyway tongue.gif

Thanks for the replies.

I already know that california doesn't not have the best communication schools around, but i probably have to stay in california.

can somebody elaborate on the information of the majors? (ESPECIALLY TO THOSE WHO ATTEND UCLA AND CSUF)

Whoa, you must be 'round my area. biggrin.gif I'm also aiming for a communications or journalism (i guess..) major in schools around here.

So far I've applied to.. I'm not really sure if they're good or not..
San Francisco State Uni. - (heard their journalism class is pretty good)
UC Davis has comm..
UC San Diego has comm...

I'm not sure if they're good so yeah.. I decided to to apply to privates.. costs too much money ^^".

USC is said to be good too, like what others have said. I'll try to check up on this thread happy.gif maybe I'll get some clue to what's going on.

*o.0 you can ignore this post if you want, didn't know it was a college thread tongue.gif I'm still pre-college, haha.

I'm a communication major @ USC Annenberg. I think we're actually #1 for Communication (undergrad)..pretty sure about that. As for journalism and public relations, Annenberg School for Communication offers all that too. Look into it because SC is m-azzzing: http://annenberg.usc.edu/.

I go to UCLA (I am also a comm major), but I agree with dulcedeleche, their program is a lot better. If you really want the hands on approach and learning, you'll definitely get it at USC...as for UCLA, we're more theory based, so you're going to have to go out and get internships to get any experience. Also, for UCLA, it's a really impacted major so it's very hard to get in, they have limited spots every year. I heard for transfers they only accepted about 90? or less this year.
