My other thread stated that I wanted to go to Tufts University: What are my chances at Tufts?

I heard it's an insanely difficult school to get into.

I've been miserable, though, because my SAT scores won't be that good anyway. I'll probably get in the 1900's range at the most. And now I'm getting a B in a tough chemistry class. Throughout all of highschool, I've been getting A's. The teacher grades very hard. The B might even through off my entire GPA so that I may be ranked 2nd in class instead of 1st. =/ It's insanely stressful.

And what's even worse is that our school posts up "who made all A's honor roll" after every quarter. People expect my name to be on that list, but when they find that it isn't, it's just going to be awkward. I dread going to school and having people ask me "Oh my gosh, Emily.... you didn't make the all A's honor roll?" Believe me, they'll ask me that.

I know I sound like a loser, obsessing about something like this. But Tufts is kind of my dream school at the moment. I also hate these expectations that people set up for me.

O.o a small B can drop u from A honor roll? As much as grades and SAT are important i think being a well rounded person count for something.

not much
look, one B wont kill you
one B wont even dent your GPA that much in the long run
even if you do rake up quite a few Bs and maybe even a C, you just have to remember its not all about the numbers
dont become depressed because of one B, thats not worth it

Don't stress over one B. GPA isn't the only thing that colleges look for.

^ sums everything up. one b won't kill you or even harm you in the least... NOBODY is perfect smile.gif and even if you are perfect, colleges are bound to be suspicious... cause everyone's gotta have their imperfections! lol. i know a guy that got a 2400 sat and deferred from mit... so ya @_@
smile. you don't know who's day you're making. :)

One B won't harm you at all, no worries. Tufts is a good school, but it's not THAT competitive, where if you don't have a 4.0 you won't get in smile.gif Besides, no school, not even those like Ivies/top 10, really will penalize you for one B. The application as a whole (extracurrics, SAT etc) is far more important than you getting 35 A's and not 36 A's (assuming 6 classes/semester from FR-JR)

11+ YEARS AND STILL GOING STRONG

---deleted... again---
sorry

but either way... numbers are not everything
perfects scores have led to deferrals and a B average has led to top-notch schools before

the biggest impact it's going to make is most likely on your pride in school...

i wouldn't worry about it too much.

my friend last year had a 3.35 and is currently attending tufts. =)

^well if ur friend is attending tufts now, it means he was a senior when he recieved the 3.35 in his senior year after he sent his apps in (and the colleges only check final transcript to see if they should revoke) so maybe he got a little leeway there
the poster is a junior i think

i disagree
for one thing, if you dont get into a college they dont tell you WHY you got rejected, so you can't just say i didnt get in because of one B.
i highly doubt one B looks like you slacked off... maybe if it was a bunch of classes for a whole semester it looks like you slacked off...

i mean if you want to get into a top notch college you're going to be taking difficult classes
getting a B in Calc BC or something then getting As in AP Econ, AP Lit and watever else doesnt look like slacking off...

If you're taking AP/IB/honor/college classes... you really shouldn't worry about getting perfect marks. As long as you're in the A-C range, you'll be fine. Colleges do get concerned if you drop lower than that, especially in an easy class.

But keep in mind that you'll get a chance to clarify on grade drops if they were caused by personal incidents like a death in the family. Good luck

what do u mean you get a chance to clarify if it's caused by personal incidents? how? like write it in the personal essay? lol sorry something like this happened to me, and my grades dropped horibbly. so i wanted to know if i can explain to colleges why.

^something like that happened to me to and it obliterated some of my grades; i described the events as the focal point of my personal statement and then i hinted that it may have had a negative effect on my grades

if you don't want to do that, however, you can always explain in the 'additional information' section
