How To Hardsub A Video.
#1
Posted 19 December 2006 - 03:00 PM
So, i was trying to learn how to hadsub a video and i found this great tutorial. It was all going great until i had to open up Open VirtualDubMod to do stuff with the video. When i clicked on Open video file, it wouldn't show my movies that i wanted to hardsub. I don't know if it's because it isn;t in .avi file but i tried to use the videos i dl-ed from soompi. I don't know where i can find .avi filed videos. So if anyone could help me out and tell me what i'm doing wrong, it would be greatly appreciated

Er haven't used vdub mod for a while, can't you set it to Open and at the bottom choose all files? What format is it? If its an AVI then virtual dub would be good, if it has MPG in it VirtualDub Mod is better.
What format are you converting it to?

Hi!!
I'm not very sure about your prob.. ^^;
But if you'd like to try another tutorial that will surely work here is one(^^)
Jini's Guide On..
How To Add Your Name In A Video.
This method can also be used to make regular subtitles. :]
You need to download the following programs first:
Subtitle Workshop
SRTtoSSA
Virtual Dub
Subtitler-2_4 filter {Download subtitler-2_4.zip from virtualdub.org4}
TMPGEnc
1) Open the program Subtitle Workshop. You will be making the subtitle of your name.
2)Go To File, New subtitle.
3) See where it says text?

Type in your name or whatever you want to be on the video. I typed Jini.

4)Ok see that? Now I want you to see how long your video is. You can check that by going to Movie. Open the video you're gonna use.

Move the grey circle thing (XD;) all the way towards the end.

There's a time that shows. Copy the first one and put it in hide and press enter.

5) Go to file save as Subrip, double click it. A window should've popped up. Name the file yournamesub.srt and save. {Make sure to save the file to folder you'll remember it will be in
}
6) Exit out of Subtitle Workshop.
7) Open up SRT to SSA. This program will convert your .srt file to .ssa and will help change the stuff and stuff of your subtitle name.

At Input file, browse for your yourname sub file.

8) See all the different options? You can choose any font you want and size. And any 3 colors for the subtitle. Choose 3 colors that will look best for viewing.

But, over here. For subtitles position Horizontal you can either choose only left or right. I chose left.
For Vertical subtitles position you can either choose only down or up. I chose up.
9) Leave all the rest alone and press convert. Job finished!
10) Exit out of SRTtoSSA
11) Open up Virtual Dub. This program will make the video and subtitle show.
12) Go to File, open video. Open the video you will be using.
13) Okay remember that subtitler-2_4.vdf you downloaded?
Go to that file, copy Subtitler.vdr and go to your Virtual Dub folder.

Go to Plugins folder. And paste Subtitler.vdf in there.

14) Go back to the Virtual Dub program. Go to Video, Filters, Add.

Go down the list and find subtitler Avery Lee. Click it and press ok.

This thing should've popped out. Find your .ssa file and press ok. Press ok again when you're at filters.

15) Now you should see 2 windows. On the left is the original, on the right is the one with the subtitle.
To view it press the 2nd triangle play button. Stop playing it if you're satisfied.

16) Go to the virtual dub folder again. Doubleclick auxsetup and press install handler. Press ok.

Window should pop saying it was successful, press ok. Exit the auxiliary setup.

17)Go back to Virtual Dub. Go to file, start frameserver. Framesever setup should popup. Press Start.
[/img]http://img91.echo.cx...ecolor092ub.png[/img]
Now save window should pop up. Save it to whatever you want to call it. whatever.vdr SAVE.

18) This framesever mode window pops up. Do not exit out of it leave the window OPEN!
19) Open up TMPGEnc. This program will make the video and subtitle permanet and into a MPEG video file.

Just press ok >_>;

Project Wizard pops up. Just ignore it, press x.

Should take you to this window. Video source; browse for your file. Make sure where it says Files of type scroll down at All Files and find your .vdr file, then press open.

20) At output file you can rename it to whatever you want. That's what it's going to be called and put at as the final video.

21) Press Start! It will start converting and when that's finished you've finally finished adding your name into the video! YAY! {Btw when it's converting still leave that frameserver OPEN til it finishes converting!}
Cool huh? :flirt: XD;

thanks so much jini for sharing your tutorial with us.
Problem though:?
I'm at the last step of using TMPGEnc; however, after I had browse my video and clicked okay, ll it then says that the video/file cannot open or is unsupported. what should i do?
thanks in advance.
