Hi everyone

I am sure everyone here must have an iPod or something. Just wanna know if anyone have the Sandisk Sansa mp3 players and would like to know their opinion of it.

One thing I liked it over the iPod is the presence of the FM tuner and the ability to add up to 2 GB of space by using the microSD slot. Also, I was told it could play some video as well (not sure on the format).

So Sandisk Sansa owners, please respond to this thread and let me know your impressions (both bad and good). I am going to purchase this for my brother for his Christmas present.

PS: I am considering the 4gb e260 model.

well the overall look of the mp3 player is real nice, but my friend recently bought this thing, and its been a week and already hes having problems, his screen turns white and wont turn on
i also looked around on some forums and found that many people had this same problem. Other than that, sound quality is great, i think the battery is good, and overall a solid performer.

^Tell him/her to return it or can go to anythingbutipod.com forums and ask how to fix it there.

I had it for about couple of months. No problems, but the top left tip got chipped mad.gif but it makes sense since I left it in my backpack. ohmy.gif I can't find anything bad about this. Most of the bad things I got it fixed by modding it. Sometimes when I have problems for whatever reason, I just press the power button for a while until it shuts down and then start it again, everything is fine afterwards.

The video uses .mov format. If you use the default settings then your videos will be split in 10 mins and and the capacity will increase, as in a 500 MB will become 700 MB. I fixed it by modding the setting a bit and found it at the forums I mentioned above. Changed it so there are no splits and when doing so, the capacity is actually less than what it normally was.

You can also add album art. A firmware isn't released for when using WMP 11 to transfer playlists and songs with the album art. So you can do it manually, instructions can be found at that forum.

You can also drag & drop music.

You have to use the converter it comes with to transfer videos and pictures, or use alternatives if you want to. It's got that sleek look. The back is scratch resistant. The circle thing might feel cheap and tacky, as for me I don't care, and the buttons around it are a bit hard to press but isn't impossible. I got used to it and it's easy. You can buy a Kroo silicone case which helps out a lot on pressing the buttons. Plus, accessories are coming out for it just like the iPods have. The battery supposedly lasts 20 hrs long, the good thing is that battery can be replaceable, which is a plus. When you buy the battery kit it comes with a screw driver and stuff.

ONE BAD THING I found is that the firmware does not support Asian font, YET. So if your friend listens to lots of Asian songs then you might want to look into the T9. If not, then the Sansa will be perfect.

I rate it 9/10, would be 10/10 if they released a firmware to support Asian font.

Actually I have the exact model you're considering- e260 4gig.

I also have a 40gig Ipod with clickwheel. Honestly, in my opinion the Sansa ....

OWNS

I have it in front of me right now and I really like how it looks. It doesn't fingerprint very easily, nor scratch (the screen). Ive been taking good care of it generally (though it doesnt have a protective covering) and it looks pretty much new. I've had it for about 4-6 months now. Oh, and I dropped it before on the cement of my garage, and still works and looks as though I didn't.
As for how it works .... everything is just good. I mean- its very comfortable and useful to me because it also has video. The screen is small but to me it's a perfect size. I always watch korean dramas on it (haha) .. the video format I think can be alot of things .. I forget which it doesnt allow ... but it accepts Avi, Quicktime, Wmv.....the basic ones ... not divvyx (spelling?) though
Radio...works very well.. so does the recording function. It's fairly easy to convert pictures and videos into the player because it comes with a program for you to drag and drop, and it automatically converts for you.

Oh- and I also bought a mini disk 2gig to go along with it. So now it's about 6 gigs. I've gotten too used to watching videos on it though that I've been using nearly all of the memory for movies smile.gif

Anyway out of 1-10, ten as best, I'd rate the Sansa Sandisk as a 8.5-9ish

As for the Ipod 40gig I still have ... I'd give it a 7-8 because of the fact that it runs on hard drive. So if you drop it there's quite a chance you could have damaged the drive inside- breaking the ipod permemantly. That's what happened to mine, I dropped mine like the Sansa in the garage on accident (clumsy me) and after about a week the drive inside started shaking etc. The Sansa OWNS in this aspect because it's just a flash drive- meaning it will virtually never break- nor need a replacement.

Lastly, about it size- I really disliked the Nano's thin quality because I'd always feel like I could break it. This Sansa is thin, but it feels sturdy but not heavy. It just seems perfect to me.

Haha my brother got one as well .. but like 50 bucks cheaper .. 120!

thanks for all the replies. Yes. thats also one of my quirks on the iPod. I heard some people having probs with it, but one thing that isnt that bad is Apple's support. I heard the support is pretty good and one of my friend even got a brand new iPod when he told the guy at the apple store about the problems. They didn't really give him a hard time and just brought a new iPod for him. But of coz, this happens during the 1st month of ownership.

Does anyone have the Rhapsody models (preceeded with an 'r' behind the model name)? My bro is in Asia so I dont think he'd use that feature. Seems like I am going to get the Sandisk then.

1 thing that could be cool is if Sandisk made different colors for their Sansa lineup.

The "R" series is good if you are going to use the Rhapsody service a lot. If not, then just go for the normal ones. Both are the same.

Even though people get new iPods when asking for a repair. It'll get redundant if you have to do it a lot. Who cares about replacing it with a new one, you know? I would like to have one that works w/o returning it unless I broke it.

I wish the dial would have been red. Red and Black looks goooooood.

I pretty much agree with everything everyone above said, except for the screen size. I think it's a really good screen size for an MP3 player of that size. The screen takes up most of the free space on the front of the player already, how much bigger could it be? If you wanted a bigger screen, then get a larger MP3 player. I think the screen on the iPod nano is ridiculous, it is using up about half of the free space on the front and is fairly smaller than the Sansas.

I have the sansa 1 gig mp3 player and it's great with me I like it much more than the ipod I had. it's simple to use and doesn't suck up batts, on small batt for me everyday it last about 1 month and i haven't been haven't had a problem with it, it even records things too, so for me it's been awesome.

i own an ipod mini and a 8GB sansa but i prefer my mini over sansa because
1)lack of Asian font support for sansa like the above poster pointed out
2)To me the sound quality for sansa really stinks (i dont know what it is called but it sounds too heavy, not very clear). Its not my headphone that does this cuz i tested the sound quality using the same headphone. Even with an equalizer setting, the ipod sound quality is still better
3)I dislike the way you transfer music using the sansa.
