i know jewel is really good and has been around for a while

but i didn't know one of her albums sold that much..
There's gotta be more to life than chasing down every temporary high to satisfy me

The late 90s was attributed to bubble pop so theres no surprise as to the sales generated by those specific artists. The music industry unfortunately has cycles when it comes to certain genres and the casual listener will get sucked into these 'fads' and buy into whats hot (regardless of whether its actually good or not)

Seriously, there is no way you can honestly say the Spears album should even be there. I'm sure half the sales were generated by guys because she had ... sex appeal.

Besides, the usual US music listener back then didn't exactly reach out and grab anything that isn't American unless it was in your face mainstream that everyone else listened to.
