I'm 17 and a senior in high school also. My godbrother told me to put off getting a credit card and stick to a debit card for as long as I can. He's turning 20 soon and in college and he says since the day he got his CC, he couldn't control himself from charging anything and everything. I'm definitely listening to his advice because I know I won't have that much self-control either. But if you believe you can control yourself, why not? I recommend WaMu or BofA.

what it do, what it do?!

^ same here. i have a debit card and i recommend getting that rather than a credit card. a lot of college students get into deep sh1t because hey, ur in college, ur free to do whatever you want. it can be hard to control urself, esp with spending money.

I have a Bank of America credit card and it seems just fine. WaMu is ok too. Like the other people who posted above, if you can control your sporadic splurging then go ahead and get a credit card. If not, then don't get one unless you want to be in debt with bad credit aside your name.

i'm 18, a senior too, and i have a debit card. If you get one, be REALLY careful about tracking on your purchases. I was in debt for such a long time lmao it sucked. sad.gif

u shouldnt put off getting a credit card too long cuz u need to start building credit but conversely, if ur gonna have bad credit, its better to put it off as long as u can? newaiiz as a general rule of thumb, cc interest rates for teens are freakishly high (like 20+%) so dont buy nething unless you know you can pay it off that month (like u would buy it in cash but u dont have that cash on u, u have it in the bank) otherwise ull be in debt...or get ur parents to pay it off 4 u

Check for any special deals that you can get from the banks...
Wells Fargo has this deal with my university and I get free checking, free online banking, free ATMs... pretty much everything is free, but only for 4 years, or while I'm a student.

A credit card isn't that bad, just don't spend more than you have... I use my credit card mostly for online purchases, because it's easier to get your money back if something goes wrong. smile.gif
