Q2: Anyone at UCLA or applying to UCLA as a music major for piano? Read the stuff below pleasseeeee...
Ahh I put that I'd go into UCLA as a music major when I filled out the application but now want to pull out and change my major. There's a preliminary screening where you have to record 5 pieces... but only recently did I read that if you don't pass the preliminary screening, you automatically get denied admission from UCLA. ><
I don't want to be a professional musician and from the website, UCLA's music department seems pretty set on producing great performers. I have 2 pieces that I'm ok with (I guess) and still have to do the rest by Jan. 5 (!!!)... and fill out the supplementary forms too
I know that the most important thing is how well I play and... my skills are pretty high as I've been playing for more than half my life. It's just that the more I listen to my recording, the more I'm not so pleased with it and am having my doubts about whether I'll pass the preliminary screening or not. And just don't want to do any more recordings. >< My piano teacher says that whatever I've recorded is "ok" or "good enough" but I really don't know what's good enough. Can anyone help or tell me what the standards are for the preliminary screening?
I feel bad for pulling out - but also don't want to endanger my chances of getting in should everyone applying be piano geniuses. I was actually hoping I'd have a better chance of getting in as a music major. >< My grades are kinda average (no I'm not being modest or stupid and have all A's) but I've got strong test scores and I think, essays and activities.
Is this decision okay? I talked to my parents about this and they're fine either way... but still... not sure...
