SO my friend currently has a D in precalculus Honors this year (senior year). Since a "D" is unacceptable for UC eligbility she's planning to get a "no credit" from the teacher. Would a "no credit" on her transcript look better than a "D" to admission officers, or would they look down upon this as well, if not more disapprovingly and critical? It seems that both options suck since the officers will dismiss her as a slacker when in fact she is a dilligent student who is merely struggling in this course alone.
She is willing to make this grade up at a community college, but is it TOO LATE considering that it IS senior year & UC only look at first semester grades?

Also, what are her chances of getting accepted to a UC with a 1600/2400 SAT + 3.9 GPA? We've heard stories about people with 1400s getting into la and sd.
The UCs she applied to are ucsd, uci, ucla, and ucr.

srry for the series of questions. that is all. sweatingbullets.gif

The stories about 1400 SATs getting into LA and UCSD are more the exception rather than the rule. It helps to know that such exist, but more than likely that case is rare. I am not sure about the schools she applied to. UCLA will most likely again receive the most applications of any school in America whatsoever so I think that what will be the deciding factor here is her intended major. Does she have one? If she does and put it down, then the possibilites go up. You can get a 2100 but if you're doing Bio, you're going up against people who scored 2300 on their SATs. However, if your discipline is a more off the cuff, then things get better.

uc's actually dont look at senior grades until end of the year i believe
i think no credit>D ...not sure ask your counselor
i really doubt you'd get in with 1400 SAT unless you're like amazingly good at something (ie #1 in math in state or something). yeah

Your precalculus class is an honors class?

I'm taking that right now and it doesn't even count as an honors class tears.gif

Ya, UC's don't look at senior year grades until much later. Also, if you apply to ALL the UC's (9), you are GUARANTEED to be accepted to at least one. (Which will probably be the crappiest one.. like merced or something).

yeah as i told someone earlier you may get accepted to a nice uc but when they review your senior grades after admissions are all done they might revoke your admission especially if they overbook their school. happenshappens..
