I searched "Love Will Tear Us Apart" on a website earlier and, naturally, several Joy Division results came up, but then so did a Fallout Boy one. So I clicked on it, listened, and I have to say it was one of the worst song covers I've ever heard. The lead singer sounded like he had some serious nasal problems. I almost threw up my breakfast.

So I guess that would be the worst. I can't think of many favorites, except I do love New Order's cover of "Ceremony". NIN's "Dead Souls" is also nifty, but nothing matches Ian Curtis' vocals. I don't know why I'm only naming Joy Division stuff, but yeah.

Jaurim's cover album is also great. Another Day in Paradise, Girl You'll be a Woman Soon, Pennyroyal Tea, Starman, Gloomy Sunday, etc.

I am drawing a huge blank at the moment.

For recent songs....

http://youtube.com/watch?v=8-8nkkOA_AM

Original: Andre 3000 - Hey Ya
Covered by: Matt Weddle (From Obadiah Parker)

I hated this song with a passion. I thought it was such an annoying song with a stupid fad in it *shake it like a polaroid picture* but this guy turned this song 180 degrees. Who would have thought this stupid song could be such a thoughtful one with the right voice and with a guitar? His voice is amazing, and to transcribe it for the guitar was an awesome move =) This is probably my favourite cover that switched from one genre to another.

As for other ones, I'd have to think about it some more...=)

U2 did a cover of a Bob Dylan song. The song itself is honestly not my favourite, but it's really not hard to sing better than Bob Dylan, so it's a nice cover.

I don't usually like Marilyn Manson, but his cover of "This is Halloween" from the Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack is the sex. <3

Also, Big Bang's/G-Dragon's remake of This Love by Maroon 5. I fncking hate the Maroon 5 version, but GD's is just so nice. I love it.

Speaking of Maroon 5, they did one godawful cover of Closer by NIN. I just.... ugh... >__<;

Best cover songs that I've heard:
My Chemical Romance & The Used - Under Pressure (original by David Bowie and Queen)
Westlife - You Raise Me Up (original by... I don't remember, too many people have covered this song)
No Doubt - It's My Life (original by Talk Talk)

Worst cover songs that I've heard:

Any blink-182 songs that Angels & Airwaves play at their concerts. I know Tom Delonge was from blink-182 before their hiatus, but it's just not right/the same.

Panic! At the Disco's cover of Tonight Tonight by Smashing Pumpkins was pretty atrocious.

I think Richard Cheese makes some of the most awesome covers.. How he make "Milkshake" into a bluesy kinda jazzy thing is wow..

Weird Al.. no comment.

I hate Britney Spears's version of My Perogative [original by Bobby Brown if I'm not mistaken]

The Fugees' Killing Me Softly was a good cover.

I can't think of a best cover, but a worst would be Avril Lavigne's live cover of Chop Suey.

I hated Sheryl Crow's cover of Sweet Child O' Mine by Guns n' Roses. So bad.

I don't know of any good covers currently.

Deftones (go figure) are boss when it comes to doing covers. Some of my favorites being Lynard Skynards "Simple Man", John Lennon's "Jealous Guy", and Duran Durans "The Chauffer".

Perhaps I'm being biased because I like them so much, but I actually thought Finch's cover of Radioheads "Karma Police" was pretty good. And I've heard a few covers of The Smiths "How Soon Is Now" that have been good.

The MCR/The Used cover of Under Pressure made me want to vomit. I'm sure there are others that have had the same effect but I'm blanking.
There was nothing to fear,
and nothing to doubt.

I didnt like how Regine Velaquez covered Mariah's " Glitter"
her voice aint bad, but that was made for Mariah and only Mariah.

Whitney Houston covered Chaka Kahn's "Every Woman"
and I liked hers better than Chaka's

Stars's cover of "This Charming Man" by The Smiths is pretty much orgasmic.

I adore The Postal Service's cover of "Against All Odds", too. <3

and Iron and Wine's cover of The Postal Service's 'Such Great Heights' is great too.

i really like John Mayer's 'Message in a Bottle' as well. its a cover of the famous and classic Sting and Police song.

(ben folds and rufus wainwright did pretty good with george michael's careless whisper too)

wood!
