DBSG's "풍선" (Balloons) stayed at the No. 1 spot for the 2nd week in a row. The top 3 songs also remain unchanged with Sung Shi Kyung's "거리에서" (On The Street) still at No. 2 and Se7en's ""라 라 라" (LaLaLa) at No. 3. This will be the last top 20 chart in 2006. We'll take a week off next week. Instead, we'll announce the 2006 Soompi Gayo Award Results. Remember to vote for your DaeSang winner here, if you haven't yet.

Not much movement on the chart this week, as we are getting into holiday season. We have 3 new songs this week, one of them is a re-entry. Jang Woo Hyuk's 폭풍속으로 (One Way) came back to the chart at No. 19. Jang Woo Hyuk just recently starting to promote this song on gayo shows. I won't be surprised if this song is moving back up again.

As for the new songs, we have a top 10 debut. SG Wannabe completed a very fruitful 2006 with another new song "사랑가" (A Song of Love) at No. 8. This is one of the new songs from their best hit album "The Precious History". The song features their good friend Vibe, and is also written by Vibe's Ryu Jae Hyun, who has written SG's hit "느림보" (Slow Tempered) earlier this year. Including this song, SG Wannabe has 3 songs in the top 20 this week, the other 2 songs are No. 12 with Brown Eyed Girls "Must Have Love", and No. 13 with Kim Jong Kook (S.101) "바람만바람만" (Only Wind Only Wind).

The other new song is "너에게 쓰는 편지 Part 2" (A Letter Written To You Part 2), the follow up hit from MC Mong's 3rd album, coming in at No. 14. This song has 2 versions, the English singing version features Japanese group M-FLO's Lisa, and the Korean singing version features Maybee. We'll put both versions on the chart. Most of us remember very well the Part 1 of "A Letter Written To You", featured Lyn, from MC Mong's debut album. That song was never officially released as a single, but it was popular as one of the love themes on the MBC sitcom "Nonstop 4". We are glad to see Part 2 is finally released as a single.

Since this is the last chart of 2006, I like to take this opportunity to thank all the readers who have supported soompi's top 20. My posts are rather long each week, I'm trying to shorten it next year. But thanks for your patience to read through it. I hope this post gives you updated information on the world of k-pop each week. In 2007, I'll also revise the scoring method a little bit, aiming at more accurately reflecting the most updated hit songs in Korea.

ARTIST OF THE WEEK - Kim Tae Woo



Our featured artist this week is G.O.D. member Kim Tae Woo. A few weeks ago we featured another G.O.D. member who turned solo - Son Ho Young. Now it is Kim Tae Woo's turn. Most people would agree that Kim Tae Woo is the best singer out of all G.O.D. members. Even before he released his first solo album, he had participated in other singer's albums. Last year, he collobrated with MC Mong to scored one of 2005's biggest hits in Korea "I Love U Oh Thank U". Earlier this year, he was featured in another hip-hop newcomer SuHo's "봄여름가을겨을" (Spring Summer Fall Winter). These 2 songs are also featured in his new album. With his strong vocal, emotional ballads have become Kim Tae Woo's trademark songs. Let's find out more about him:

Kim Tae-woo, former member of G.O.D. debuted as a solo singer in the fall of 2006, right before he planned to fulfill his mandatory military service. In 2002, Kim Hyun Chul released his 8th album entitled ‘…and Kim Hyun Chul’. He has finally released his 9th album after four years. He debuted in 1989 and until now, he has worked with young girls’ and taught them about sensitivity. Kim Hyun Chul is a great singer that is well known for singing modernized ballad songs. He has made tons of hit songs in the past such as ‘Train going to Chuncheon’, ‘Moon’s downfall’, ‘Blue inside of you’, and ‘Loving you’. His 9th album has been upgraded one step higher to bring the best quality in music. There are a total of ten tracks in this album and the title track is entitled ‘Not being able to marry’. This title song is about a man not being able to forget about the woman he loves after breaking up and he lives his life in tears and just reminiscing about the precious moments that they shared with each other. Movie star Jin Goo and Lim Jung Eun was casted to act in this music video, expressing the pains of love that can’t be granted. Hooray! MY DBSK boys have done it again for a second week! I really didn't think this song was going to even make it to number one, let alone for two weeks! And 144k in one month, that's more than any of the other artists' total sales!!!! Sorry for all the exclamations, I'm just really happy for the boys because they've gone through so much this year. And I'm hoping their album will pass the 500k mark soon since it's sales are still strong and it's already achieved 340k in two months! Looking forward to seeing them win the Daesang again on the 30th.

I really like La La La but I keep wondering why his other song (I will be good to you) was never near the charts It's a really good song, and the music video is very sweet ^^
