How many of you guys do your sport to increase your chances of getting into the college of your choice?
i admit that i do it. even though i love my sport (crew), i'm not sure i would put in all the time and commitment. i do crew (like rowing)...i'm a coxswain however, so i dont do any actual rowing. anyway, we have practice 6 days a week, 16+ hours of practice, not including races, which involve getting up at 4-5am. and on sat w/o races, we have practice at 7am.
crew is good for college (especially for ivies/top notch): because i think it's different, shows a lot of commitment, and it takes $$$ to do crew, which makes it an "elitist" sport (by elitist, i do not mean that better people row-- people who have the resources (ie money) usually row), because it is an expensive sport.

i did swimming for fun in freshman year, but i stuck with it for the whole four years because i knew it would be nice to put it on my app. =P Then i did volleyball but that didn't really work out that great.
In life, opportunity only knocks once.
