can bad teacher recs knock u off of a college automatically?

i decided not to apply to cornell last minute.. but my AP Lit teacher wrote me a rec... but since I wasn't applying.. I opened it :X

and what she wrote wasn't exactly what youd expect a teacher to write in a "recommendation"

i had like the 2nd highest A in that class... and i pretty much had high A's on all of the papers, particularly on the big ones... but she just HAD to write about the one paper i screwed up on.. she wrote that i had a bad grade on it, but after talking to her, i was able to bring my grade on that paper up to a B. ;;;

and then for class discussions, she wrote... well above average, but QUIET.

Ya teacher recs may have a bit of an influence on your acceptance... which is why you kind of need to make sure you get teachers that other people have said that have written good recs. My calc teacher wrote me a ridiculously nice rec, and she even asked me to "proof-read" it to see if it was okay

But generally, I wouldn't worry much about it. Your GPA & SAT/ACT scores count most.

If your application is strong and the rec isn't that bad, it shouldn't hurt much. If your application is strong and you have good recs, it's just one more good thing about you. If your application has a few flaws and your recs are really glowing, it can help tip the scales in your favor.

Honestly, it sounds like the rec you got wasn't that bad--if a little more honest than you would like.
