Plot (from IMDb): Professional assassin Leon reluctantly takes care of 12-year-old Mathilda, a neighbor whose parents are killed, and teaches her his trade

Directed by:
Luc Besson

Starring:
Jean Reno
Natalie Portman
Gary Oldman
Danny Aiello

I was bored so I thought I'd make a thread for my favorite movie evarrrr. It's been 7 years since the very first time I saw it and I still cry at the end sometimes. unsure.gif I even have that poster in my room. ;]

If you're a fan of the American release of the film, "The Professional", I suggest you watch the international cut sometime; the original version. It's about 15 minutes longer, and I think it makes not only the relationship between Léon & Mathilda stronger, but the film stronger as a whole. The heart of the movie is the relationship between them anyway. I always loved it but it didn't even become my favorite movie until I saw the original cut.

Oh, and since I have your attention.. I LOVE GARY OLDMAN.
There was nothing to fear,
and nothing to doubt.

I knew you were going to make a thread of this one day.
Yes, one of the best things ever put on film.
I think I may watch it today...

Seriously, I've been waiting for Portman to reprise her role for another movie; but at this rate, ppl are going to have high expectations and the execs backing the film will go for the easy way out and publish some rubbish that would make money but fail as a movie.

Luc Besson movies are great too!

^Yeah, I was just watching the Fifth Element the other night. <3

I think the Mathilda movie was just more of a wish for fanboys/girls of the film. If it did ever happen, it would need Natalie and I think Natalie would only do it if Luc was going to do it, and I hear he's retiring as a director. sad.gif I don't know if he'd do it anyway, but still. I definitely think without either of them, no kind of sequel will ever be made. Hopefully not even one of those straight-to-video-has-nothing-to-do-with-the-original sequels.

Haha ooooor they get Reno to do flashback b&w scenes from Mathilda's point of view telling her the "rules" or something inspirational.

The only Besson movie I wasn't fond of was Banliue 13. Revolver was ok and Transporter movies had their moments lol. (Or maybe cos Statham is just too awesome!)

yup really good movie.. was it really that long ago.. wow seems like yesterday for me tongue.gif

but yeah i was so blown away by natalie's performance..
Alice asked the Cheshire Cat `Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?'
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.
"I don't much care where--" said Alice.
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go,' said the Cat.

HeffyEnd & VersusVillain, if it weren't for both of you rec'ing this movie left and right on the boards i would have never watched it.
Glad I did, it was superb!

Unfortunately I watched the American version, which had many parts ommitted.

I watched "wasabi" for good measure, but it doesn't compare.
I was blown away by both Jean Reno & Gary Oldman's performance.

Gary Oldman is flawless as a villain.

Luc Besson movies are great too!

I remember at the time she was firmly against doing any sort of sequel due to the all the attention she got from older men from her part in leon and I've read a few articles where she spoke out against having underage girls play "sexualized" parts in movies. At her current age though I guess that wouldn't really be an issue...

one of the best movies ever!
the thing is you have to make sure you see the unedited version-or else they take out what i thought crucial scenes that helps explain more on the relationship between her and leon

I dont know how i feel about the ending though felt a bit empty
"um i received it first"

Yeah, 1994 had a lot of great and oscar-baity films though. But still, I definitely would've nominated Natalie and maybe Gary too. I'm pretty biased when it comes to Gary though, I think he deserves nominations for all the films hes done lol.

He's a great villain and such a diverse actor. I mean, just watch this, The Fifth Element, Bram Stokers Dracula, then True Romance. Wow. Seems like he has a different accent for each film too (he's actually british).
