anyway, just to continue with the discussion about filipino boybands, honestly, the idea doesn't appeal at all to me. unless they form a really good set of guys who could sing and dance superbly and with drop-dead gorgeous looks. hahaha. who knows? probably in the near future, we'd get to see the birth of one... after all, the mainstream music genre here in the philippines changes from time to time... i mean, there was a time when novelty songs abound (plus all those novelty singers / groups) which honestly makes me go:

i'm making one here 'coz the filipino R&B thread is slowly turning out to be an OPM discussion thread.

whenever i hear them on the radio. then, acoustic performers abound with the likes of paolo santos and nyoy volante. i wouldn't have known that the "kahon" existed if it weren't for these acoustic performers... now it's all about bands. they're sprouting everywhere. let's make a bet on who's gonna remain after all these. my bet goes to sugarfree. i love them! have you listened to any of their tracks from their new album "tala-arawan" (diary in english
)? i love track number 3 (kung ayaw mo na sa akin) and track number 9 (ang pinakamagaling na tao sa balat ng lupa) is just so funny!

woo hoo..an opm thread..haha..sorry for bringing that boyband topic..hahah
yeah..i hate the time when all those novelty songs came up..hehe..they get all popular and you could hear them everytime, everywhere!..and sometimes i hate myself for singing in..lol..
yeah i agree with you with the "kahon" hahaha..funny..acoustics where very popular last year or last last year..cause of mymp , and paolo santos..i like their songs also..
i like sugarfree also..well i like everything if it catches my attention..im not really the type of person who sticks to one genre of music..i like being on the mainstream..heheh..
but i for one just like the idea of having a boy band here..but even i myself laugh at teenage actors when they act..haha..so unrealistic..lol..im not criticizing ok..just stating a fact...especially when they start to act "malambing" with the girl..lol..couldn't stop myself from laughing..how much more if they'll sing a tagalog pop song like suju's..hahaha..
well, maybe if i could see ANIME dance and sing suju's type of song..heheh.i'll prefer to hear it in ENGLISH though..so that it wouldnt sound "baduy"..heheh

oh wow, you actually made an OPM thread. I've always wondered though {stupid as I may sound} how do we really classify OPM?
for me, when I hear OPM, I automatically think Regine Velasquez, Martin Nievera, Ogie Alcasid, Janno Gibbs, Gary V, Lea Salonga... basically, the solo Filipino singers. how about the bands like Freestyle, MYMP, Bamboo, Parokya? they are considered OPM, no? sorry for the slight ignorance.
anyway, right now, I only enjoy a few Filipino bands: MYMP, Bamboo, Parokya ni Edgar, {the old, back when Bamboo's their vocalist} Rivermaya, and of course Orange and Lemons. I did have some moments with Hale and Cueshe but I find their music a little repetitive. MYMP and Orange and Lemons never leave my playlist. they're included in a sea of K-music and J-music.

probably all we need is to produce one really successful boyband. i'm betting after that, boybands would sprout just like what's happening now with rock / alternative bands. i guess it's all about timing after all. the problem is, pinoys aren't just too experimental (heck, with the dropping album sales because of piracy, i can't blame producers for playing safe!). probably producers aren't that keen in producing dbsk or suju-like boybands as much as i am not to keen in seeing one. haha. did i make sense at all?
and yeah, now that you've mentioned it. being baduy is que horror.
oh. and to answer uruchai... opm is basically everything's proudly pinoy made. no matter what genre it may be. we may not be good in producing group acts but we're good in making solo singers.

ahh, I quite get it now. still a bit confused, eh. what about those nice remakes of oldies song? eg. Nina's I will always love you {that's not Filipino-made right?} so, that wouldnt be under the category of OPM?
anyway, I think I'll frequent this thread. I still like being updated about Pinoy music, even though my musical preferences have been altered a bit. there are many really good Filipino artists that I wish the world get to see.

uh yeah. i forgot about the remakes of old foreign hits. i guess we'd have to redefine opm as music that is proudly pinoy made or performed by a filipino artist. hehe. a very general definition i must say. but i guess if we'll stick to the word per word definition of original pilipino music, i must say OPMs are those that are pinoy made. hehe. argh. i am just blabbering nonsense here.
yeah, there are soooo many good performers that need exposure worldwide! we're lucky to have the internet at this age. i personally believe that if we just know how to utilize our resources, this poweful tool may be used to our advantage to spread out pinoy love worldwide.
