Her coaches are Bun-sun Park and Brian Orser. During the summer of 2006, in order to prepare for her senior debut season, she went to Canada to work with David Wilson and Brian Orser for choreography and later with Orser for coaching. Her previous choreographers were Tom Dickson and Jeffrey Buttle.
In HomeSense Skate Canada International ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating held from Nov 2 - 5, 2006 in Victoria, British Columbia, she skated to a clean program and finished first after the short program with her personal best 62.68 points. However, she stumbled in the free skate and settled for a bronze medal in overall standing.
Two weeks later, in Trophée Eric Bompard Cachemire ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating in Paris, France, which took place from Nov 16 - 19, 2006, she again performed an excellent short program and finished with a new personal best 65.22 points, just 0.20 points ahead of Japan's Miki Ando after the short program. In the long program, she stepped out of a triple salchow and fell on her last jump, a double axel, in an otherwise well-skated program. She received a personal best 119.32 for the free skate, and obtained a total of 184.54 to win the gold medal - the first ever by a Korean skater at a senior international competition.
In the 2006-'07 season, she skates to "Tango de Roxane" from Moulin Rouge soundtrack for the short program, and "The Lark Ascending" by British composer Ralph Vaughan Williams for the long program. (free skate)
