Is it normal for 18 year olds to experience back pain? I feel like I'm aging before my time lol!

If you have bad posture, I think it's because some of your spinal disks or whatever theyre called are like slipping out? My dad has that.

I'd get it checked though - better safe than sorry.

yeah ive had lower back pain since 15, and im 18 now but somehow the pain kinda diminished. its not muscular pain but kinda like pain from the nerves which stretches to the legs. sometimes its so painful i cry or have to sit down quick. i never went to get my problem diagnosed, instead i kept going to chinese doctors. my mum said its probably my mattress thats causing the problem because ive been jumping on it and it has this depression in the middle. i changed my mattress and somehow i just got better. i dont know if its the changing of the mattress or the chinese doctor or me stopping hockey that made the back pain go away. i never knew what even caused the pain in the first place.

back pain is pretty common in youngsters nowadays. even the newpapers are reporting it. theres this advice the chinese doctor gave me, which is to sleep early and not study late into the night. i suppose sitting at the desk for long hours isnt good for the back or something.

theres lots of back conditions like 'slipped disc' and sciatica and what not. slipped disc being a part of your spinal cord jutting out and sciatica a nervous problem. but just because im assuring you that back pain is common in youngsters doesnt mean its normal for your body. if it gets bad you should really see a doctor to get it diagnosed or something. take care biggrin.gif

well .. if you sit in front of the computer for half of the day(like me), you will get back pains too .. basically just sitting in a position for long hours will affect the spinal parts ..

i had some pretty bad back pain, but it was from an injury i didn't think was initially that bad.
but i don't think it's normal. you should get it checked up on by a doctor.
if everything's okay'd by your doctor, try looking into a chiropractor and a massage therapist. they fixed my back!

Your back problems can be caused by a number of problems, from stress to posture to body structure. I had no idea why my back pains were so frequent until my doctor told me that my spine was slightly crooked T-T.

Go talk to a doctor; better safe than sorry!

Chickery summed it all up.

Btw, are you a male or a female?

Sometimes, you can get back pains if you're PMSing. Now of course that only applies to females.

very true. it can be when you are PMSing or during your period. my friend gets them during her period around her lower back X__X

it can be from sitting in a bad position (which everyone gets XD) but that usually goes away after you change your position (such as lying down and the pain should go away though not immediately but in a few minutes)

it can be from bra straps and tight clothes (which if you change to looser clothes, the pain should go away, maybe not immediately but after awhile and for bra straps, that means the straps or bra should be changed because it is not fitting right)

the pain can be because of front weight (such as large breasts. this is where a good bra is supposed to help)

or there could also be from your back where there is something wrong with it. X___X

but hope this helps. if it's from sitting in your chair funny, it's not really a problem because everyone gets it. just sit up straighter ^^

check it out. It may be a herniated disc, which is FAR more serious than a muscle spasm (which i am experiencing right now, coincidently which means NO GYM FOR A WEEK FOR ME biggrin.gif biggrin.gif )

go to your doc and check it out.. if you don't i assure you that you WILL regret it.

i get lower back pains all the time. (im 20 btw, but it started way before). i had it checked and the doctor said not to worry, but instead work on my abs so some of the support for the weight could be distributed. you might want to try that.

i suggest having it checked first though. i know some people who have scoliosis at a young age.
