Hi! I was wondering exactly which cable I need to use in order to connect my hp pavilion laptop to my tv-so I can basically use the tv screen as my screen for viewing videos? And is there something extra that I should get or do in order to make it work? Thanks!

If your laptop has a video out port (the yellow port..which I'm sure HP does have), all you'll need is a video cord that you can connect to the TV and just mess around with a few settings by right-clicking on desktop, going into properties, and then clicking on SETTINGS, and mess with whatever you have. I'd tell you how, but it's different from comp to comp....and because I sorta forgot how to do it laugh.gif. Try messing around with the 1 and 2 part by dragging it around. Like I said, I forgot how to actually do it.

If your laptop has a port that looks like
or
then you need an S-Video (super-video) cable which connects the laptop to a similar port on your tv.
However, if your tv doesn't have the s-video port, you will need an S-Video to RCA adapter available at Frey's and most other electronics stores.

After you connect the laptop to the tv, hold the function button on your keyboard and press the F# key that has a monitor-like symbol.

And it should work. The first time you press it, it should switch the whole display over to the TV, and on the second time, it should "clone" the image over, so you see it on both the laptop and TV. Press again (third time) to switch it back to just the laptop's LCD.

If anything is unclear, feel free to ask about it smile.gif
