Engine Swapping

well first of all a 99 miata has a 1.8L engine not a 1.6. 2nd of all just get a supercharger, that would fit your needs perfectly. a jackson racing supercharger is carb legal, cheap and reliable. it doesnt make much power, but it makes power right away. i'm not going to even dignify the 13b and especaily 20b with a response because thats just retarded if you arent into the "racing scene" and you probably know almost nothing about rotaries (if you knew anything you would know a 20b alone costs well over 5k). i will say this though, the best swap for a miata is the f20c (s2000 engine) but it will cost you more than 4-5k

If your not into the "racing scene" then you keep it stock and save your gas and money. Why go through the trouble to swap something into a daily driver that you are not really going to push? You are better off selling the car and picking up something else.
Anyways, if you are honestly going to do this then you might as well find a USDM version of whatever engine you are looking for at a junk yard or something. Take the engine and everything that you need and pay far less than $1000 for the engine, search around for some related swap, and just follow the instructions.
But by the way that you say importing the engine, I am guessing that you are looking for something from Japan. Some rotary member here will tell you, maybe. But I doubt you are really going to get the response you are looking for so just a heads up.
[Edit] One minute too slow, but there ya go.

this will be the best advice you will get in this thread for cheap, reliable, legal power. GET A JACKSON RACING SUPERCHARGER. i know i said it before but i want it to stand out. the jackson racing supercharger is perfect for daily driving, a decent hp and torque increase. no lag like a turbo. it has a good warranty, its not expensive (easily fits your budget), its easy to install, and its reliable. if you want power to climb hills this is your answer. there is nothing better out there that fits your needs and budget.

wait a sec here....
you're not into the "racing scene" but you want to swap a rotary into your miata?

you do realize that having a rotary in a miata is useless if you aren't planning to race with it or do some sort of competition...and if you expect the rotary to last you a long time as a daily driver, i'll tell you right now....FORGET IT, because it isn't going to happen.
NA rotaries make next to no torque as well, on top of that they have narrow powerbands. turbo rotaries make decent torque but that comes at the loss of (what little) reliability an NA rotary has, and fuel consumption is more than your miata engine.
so ask yourself, "is it worth it?"
on a side note, very much like azn_akira said...your best bet is probably the jackson racing supercharger kit.

To azn akira - My mistake. I forgot it was 1.8L, and i mixed it up with the 16 Valve and added in a decimal. Dumb. I admit, I knew nothing about rotary engines. The cheapest 13B I found was priced at around $1690, not including the shipping and anything else. But from your replies, I was stupid to mention those options. Stupidity on my part. Thanks for the link on the supercharger.
To supad0rk: Same as above. I was being dumb and getting ahead of myself. But I was already thinking about checking out a junkyard, but haven't had time. Thanks for the advice.
That's all for this thread. I got all the info I needed.

To some-azn-guy - Well, when I thought about power, a rotary came to mind. Although I'm not into the whole racing scene, I do push my car at times when I'm on a tight schedule. I can't do that with the current engine. There's no acceleration.
