tampons are safe.. it is considered more comfortable if you wear them after you break your hymen...
although there is is a rare chance of having Toxic Shock Syndrome which may cause death, it is still considered safe..
to lower your risk of having TSS, you should range from using tampons and pads.. (eg. last month you used tampons, this month you use pads) or only wearing tampons when your period is heavy.

the symptoms of this infection include sudden high fever, feeling sick, headache, muscular pains, dizziness or fainting when standing upright, vomitting or diarrhoea and rashes appearing on skin like sunburn.. if these symptoms appear stop using the tampson immediately by pulling it out and see a doctor straight away..
even if it may not be TSS you should make sure. if early stages of TSS is not treated, it may be fatal..

as for the myth ''the tampon might get lost''. that is total bullcrap. a tampon cannot get lost inside your vagina because the entrance to your uterus is too small..
as for the string, the string is attatched to the tampon perfectly and will not come off even when you try to yank it off..

^even if the string comes off, you can just pull it out. I mean, your vagina is supposed to fit a kid after all....

I like them, they are more comfortable, less hassle, and i don't have to feel like i'm wearing a diaper during my period.

^ I believe it was 6 hours? It should say on the box.

I use tampax pearls and it's fine for me.

The first time I tried a tampon I used the OB type and that hurt. It had no applicator and maybe I was nervous but I hated it. Tampax worked great for me and I usually wear tampons only when I know I'll be out all day.

I think they're safe. I've just started a year ago. But I must warn you............once you start, you can never go back to pads. It's just.............. vicx.gif

I use Tampax Compak because it's small. I can put it in my purse/pocket/backpack/etc.

it's best to change it every 3-4 hours even though the box says 6 b/c there are oxygen in the tampons that bacterias in your vagina feed off of

its not supposed to be able to get stuck, and if it actually did, i doubt you would need surgery for it!

they are safe (minus TSS) but if you change the every 3-4 hours (the box says like 6 hours, but 3-4 is recommended)

& use tampax pearl! smile.gif
kotex ones might hurt cuzsh there a bit on the fat side ..lol

when i used tampons for the first time, i started sweating really bad, along with some dizziness. my stomach started to hurt so bad. i took it out right away, but
i still had to lay on my bed for a couple of hours for the pain to go away.
i guess that was tss??
or i guess, i asked a soompier, and i assume i'm allergic.

i just stick to period underwear now biggrin.gif

Yes, tampons are safe. There's a risk of getting TSS, but it's rare and only if you leave the tampon in for way past the recommended time (check the box for instructions.)

I like tampax pearl. smile.gif

hmmm i like the cardboard one because what if you are at a person's house and you cant find a trashcan in their bathroom.... lol... you can just flush it! happy.gif and i (for some reason) dont find the plastic ones comfortable... i dont know...

if you want a slower flow and you dont want to be heavy, then eat iron... i.e. beef... you know...

there is the fear of TSS but TSS is rare... it even says on the paper thing in the box. you know you put it in wrong when you can feel it..

lol sorry for rambling... just some tips.. i guess... sweatingbullets.gif

how can anyone forget they have something stuck up their vagina? or even that they are on their period..... that is SOOO weird

anyway i love tampons. i use playtex gentle glide or something playtex..

you're supposed to not wear them for more than 8 hours, which is why it's recommended that you don't sleep in them cuz most people sleep more than 8 hours

and i'm stupid and take risks or am just lazy, and sometimes i leave it in for more than 8 hours (sigh i guess you CAN forget to change it!! hahaha) but i have been lucky. i do try to not forget, but when you're in the middle of lab or something, it's hard to remember! hahaha

but sometimes i leak anyway, so i usually wear underwear liner at the same time if i'm wearing the right underwear

^ I totally agree with you. ph34r.gif
I'm insanely scared of using one. It sounds really uncomfortable.. And I really don't feel comfortable sticking it in.. I have a weird thing about contacts too.. Sticking stuff in your eye... >__>
