Ever since I was little my mother entered me into alot of activies like gymnastics, swimming, jazz/tap dance, and ballet.
[which I dont do anymore, I'm a lazy senior in highschool haha]
I noticed that my shoulders were getting pretty broad, I ddidn't care before cause I was a "tomboy"
but now that I'm more self aware of my body image, I wish I didn't have broad shoulders...

HOWEVER! I still want to join gymnastics, I miss my flexibility, but I dont wnat my shoulders to get broader.
Should I still join? Do you think my shoulders will get broader than it is now?

ALSO! For those who have broad shoulders, what clothes do you wear?
I hate tshirts, I think it makes my shoulders.. boxier?

my friend told me models have broad shoulders, is that true?
huh.gif

thanks for any feedback/advice!

i'm not too sure about the models part, but anyway since you already have broad shoulders, why not accentuate them?! instead of wearing t-shirts that cover up your shoulders, wear off-shoulder clothes, or tube tops! if you really don't like your broad shoulders, i think wide-collared shirts will help to take attention away from the shoulders and to the neckline.

I use to swim like 4 years ago
then i quit and only do it like once in a while

my shoulders are back to normal :x

you can make it looks smaller by wearing a dark color half top and a light color shirt inside

Models do have braod shoulders.

Broad shoulders > sloped shoulders.

Be proud of your shoulders, they look miles better than sloped shoulders and give a stronger (think positively) apperance. I don't know why some girls worry so much about them because broader shoulders look so much better in clothes. I have them from swimming/genetics and I wear anything, including v-necks, crewnecks, and tank tops. I don't let them limit me, I believe they enhance my apperance. I love my shoulders!

^Aw, it's alright. I have pretty broad shoulders too, except when I wear dark colored t-shirts, they tend to look smaller, so I would look like I have normal sized shoulders. Don't give up gymnastics just for the sake of your shoulders =), just get used to the fact you have them and be happy about it. =) Believe me, you will LOVE gymnastics again (I don't do gymnastics, I just tend to be flexible, and do lots of flips and such) ^^. I think, with broad shoulders, avoid tank tops with tiny straps, those will just accentuate your shoulders more, making them seem more broad. If you DO wear those sort of tank tops, then wear like, a small blazer or something over it. Wearing turtlenecks help too, also making the neck seem longer and leaner. =)

working out gets your shoulders in shape but i dont know about change bone structures.. and asian girls dont get that big anyways. i'd say keep doing gymnastics.. shoulders never turned me off in a girl before wink.gif

you guys are so appreciative, thanks for the advice and support.
Lately I forget that i have broad shoulders and wear anything,
but at times it does bother me...

my tip:
wearing skirts. iono why but it puts more "emphasis" on my legs rather than my shoulders i guess
haha phew.gif

dont get fat ... well try to keep your arms slim
then ur arms wont look so broad
also wear collar tops if u wanna make them appear smaller
avoid halter neck tops
avoid tees with baggy sleeves
avoid short tops which make ur waist look smaller because then it will make ur shoulders look broad

your shoulders were coded to be their width by genetics. muscular development from physical activity contributes somewhat, but your skeletal frame is pretty much set. i say go ahead. sure your shoulders may gain some muscle, but the widening due to it isn't permanent.

broad shoulders aren't bad at all. the physical activity can work to make you look more slim and defined. i had a few crushes in high school and their wider (but not manly) shoulders were one of the things i took notice of, so it can actually be a turn on. just look at angelina jolie. and i think in the 80's women's coats/jackets had shoulder widening padding, so it was a fashion statement for women at one point (but it's not the '80's anymore so you might not care).
