Perhaps you could elaborate on what part of the description freaks you out?
First, you choose the type of portfolio and work you're going to submit. There are three possible categories: Drawing, 2D design, and 3D design. I did the drawing, which is the traditional type of drawing and illustration. 2D design is more computer/photography-based and 3D design is sculptural.
For the drawing category, there are 2 sets of drawings you have to complete: Breadth and Concentration
For the Breadth requirement, you must submit 12 slides of 12 different works (no detail slides). These are works displaying a range of technical skill and conceptual thinking. I tried to include pieces using every medium I could work with including scratchboard, colored pencil, pastel, oil pastel, acrylic, charcoal, watercolor, and graphite. Some subjects included still-lifes, figure drawing, self-portrait, landscape, and abstraction.
The Concentration requirement challenges you to take one specific subject matter and develop it over the year. ALL artists do this. It's very enriching to focus your attention on one thing and see where your mind takes you. For example, I chose how shoes could represent different stages of my life. I organized my slides to show how a shoe can be warped and abstracted, either in and of itself or through its context. Of course technical ability is crucial, but they're specifically looking for how well you can develop and work with a single idea, and how well your 12 pieces work as a whole.
My teacher required us to complete one piece every week. We alternated between breadths and concentrations... One piece a week will give you enough to do 24 pieces with a few extra weeks of touching up, or will allow you to do a bit more than 24 pieces and you can choose your best 12 + 12.
But then again, if you're doing the 2D or 3D design portfolios, this info is irrelevant.

ohh a lot of my friends are taking AP Studio Art. basically, you'll have a lot of art projects and you'll be keeping a portfolio of your artwork throughout the year so at the end, you can turn it in to collegeboard for them to evaluate.

hey now i'm a senior! well anyways. I took AP US history, ap calc, ap phyz, ap literature... as a junior; my school didn't have ap art as a class but i prepared a portfolio by myself and sent it in.
i think ti's doable.
but you definitely need to budget your time.
I wasn't sure I was gonna do it until january - and the portfolio was due early may.
i got a 4. i wish i spent more time on it
good luck!

You submit one portfolio (in either:
3D: in any material you can think of, it just has to be 3D stuff
2D: photos, photoshop, illustrator, etc.
Drawing: self explanatory. Only with traditional materials.)
Each portfolio consists of three sections: Concentration being the hardest, then Breadth, and lastly Quality (easiest b/c you can reuse some pieces in Concentration and Breadth).
http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testin....html?studioart should help you in those categories.
I got a 5 in my 2D Design portfolio, which mostly consisted of photos, photoshop, photomanipulation, etc. and a concentration statement perfected on the day of (lol don't do that please). The assembling part of the portfolio is confusing and can kill you. I think if you submit it electronically, it's way easier (no need to order slides (which are expensive, we got it cheap b/c we had quite a few students submitting also) and label them),
I have a powerpoint of my portfolio if you want it.

But then its our school's first year with an AP art class so everything is just damn ugly.
We don't have our own AP art class or room. We share with the regular students, which consist of immature whiny wannabes. The room is also PACKED, so we actually had to sit on the FLOOR to work or stand in the corner during the 1st sem. What kind of bs is that? The brushes, paint, basically every art equipment/media is crap since the immature kids don't take care of it, so by the time we get to it, its obviously crapped out. The teacher never has time to talk to us since he's ALWAYS busy with the other kids. So when we show him a piece of work, he tell us its a piece of crap. So now its 2nd sem, everyone just ditches the class now.
Overall, the coursework is not hard. Its hella easy. You have basically the whole year to make a portfolio and thats a LOT of time. It really just depends on the environment and teacher.

I have no experiance with drawing/painting except a little but thinks can come to my mind
I was wondering if this class is suitable for a person who has little experiance with drawing and painting and photoshop?
