Ok...brother blew the motor on the DC2...so I swapped it /w a B18C1 again...and the S2000 is getting boring. Honda's in general...I want to try out something different...
Anyways I was thinking about picking up a 300zx or a mr2...I know some of you had these cars before. Anyone want to help me out a bit? rolleyes.gif

if the s2k is getting boring that just means you arent driving it fast enough. but if you must have another car the mr2 would be a good choice.

Older gen mr2 is nice, I'd pick one up for fun.
The spyder is fun also, obviously not as fast as the s2k, but fun in its own.

I'm also looking into FC's....just the fact that I don't know anything bout rotary engines is keeping me away from picking one up. dry.gif

do you have a basic car you can just lug around as a daily driver? if so, then i'd opt for a weekend car.. maybe an FD.

I have no clue how he did that. The shop where the swap was done was amazed how he f***ed up the engine, and I don't want a delorean...unless I can travel in time tongue.gif

Haha...I guess I do...its already my the s2000 is my 7th car already...my daily driver/beater is my DC2...and like I said before no FC or FD until I learn more about the rotary engines. phew.gif

could be that your brother abused the crap out of it. was it fine tuned? more than likely con rod failed, spun a bearing and punctured a hole into the block.

learn about the rotary now... there are a few wankel heads in here that can provide you the necessary information.
if i was in your shoes, despite the lack of knowledge with rotary (i too am ignorant), i'd still consider strongly for that car. i have a newfound respect for cars that have been balanced by the factory to near perfection... the rx7 is one of those cars, especially on a tight budget.

Maybe...I will not let myself get a rotary engine car until I have enough knowledge to work on the engine myself. biggrin.gif Maybe I'll just work on the dc2 a bit more... huh.gif

well if you want an rx7 an FC is great one to learn on. there really isnt too much you need to learn, just do basic maintenance and it shouldnt give you too much trouble. the fc runs an airflow meter so its more forgiving to moding than the FD. learn how to test the compression and check for bad coolant seals before buying (i can tell you about that if you really want to get one). make sure the engine is warm before boosting and let it cool down before shutting if off. get a down pipe asap. the precat in the stock downpipe not only will shorten the lifespan of the motor but it KILLS the peformance and throttle response. plus read up on the FC for on rx7club and you'll be fine. most of the stories told about rotaries are blown out of proportion and some people just have bad luck (as with any car). though i wouldnt let your brother drive it, if he managed to blow the b18c1 so easily i fear for the 13bt.

compression testing will usually give you the most information....although all it tests is compression.
oil consumption should also be taken into consideration along with the conditition of the coolant seals.

testing compression in an FC is easy.
1) warm it up to normal operating temps
2) pull the ignition and fuel fuses from under the hood
3) use a conventional compression tester with the valve held down or completely removed
4) crank the engine at WOT and watch that needle bounce

general rule of thumb:
90psi(per rotor face) is the lowest you should settle for; that means the engine is okay, but far from "good"
anything below 90psi is already on it's deathbed, only a matter of time before that thing fails
i'd say anything above 110psi is superb condition.
**take note that the values must be within a certain range of one another...i'm not sure about the margin of difference allowed, but i can tell you that later if you're wondering about it...just have to check my FSM**
