i was wondering if anyone knows how to fix a driver's side door lock.
Mine used to work.. and now it doesn't. I don't really feel like paying to fix it when i can probably do it myself.
its a 97' civic coupe, and i doubt its an electrical problem because you can't even push the lock closed. Anyone have an idea of how to do it, or where i can find out how? thnxx

Open up your door panel and take a look. Door locks are mostly mechanical so check and see if the mechanism is jammed somewhere. I know that if you dynomat your door panels and you put a sheet of dynomat on the mechanical "arm" or "bar" that your lock is attached to... it can prevent your lock from opening or closing properly.
In case you don't know how to remove door panels on your car....

It may look intimidating from the picture above, but removing door panels is actually very easy. It's only a couple of screws really.

Well, the locking mechanism looks pretty standard to me from those diagrams. So there's really only three points of failure that I can see:
1) The lock switch itself is jammed in which case you just figure out how to unjam it.
2) The rods that connect the locking switch to the door latch. You just pull the rod left and right to lock and unlock it. If you pull the door handle, you should clearly see how the door rod works... the locking rod works the same way. If something is pressing against the rod too tightly (making it difficult to slide left and right) then that could cause you to not be able to lock your car as well.
or...
3) The latch is messed up. The picture above shows you how to remove the latch and replace it if need be.
One last thing I want to mention to... dunno if your Civic is the same way but on my TT-Z it won't allow you to lock the door if the door is open. That's just normal on my car. Anyways, good luck.
