kdphi, sopi, sigmas, kappas, kzphi, chi's etc... depending on the sorority, they're cool girls... if u can find sisterhood, then its worth it. but within the agc scene (asian greek council) its like high school all over again lolz... if u join looking for sisterhood, it might be one of the best experiences of ur life.

although yes, pledging is very time consuming, i think it pays off in the end
which school do u go to? depending on the school, they might be a bit more hardcore about the pledging and what not...
but just be prepared to make some sacrifices in terms of gpa and who u hang out with when u pledge

If you aren't serious about it, then I suggest you don't pledge.
Besides, you've mentioned that you're a busy person. Greek life is going to require you a lot of your time especially as a pledge.

Sure, true for you and your chapter. No wonder you depledged.
Sacrificing GPA? Don't blame the Greek activities, learn to manage your own time. Actually, it's more helpful to be in a house because you're bound to know at least couple of people from each of your classes to study together. Not to mention the "cabinet" you have the access to.
Seeing friends? Give me a break, nobody tells you who you can and can't hang out with. If we're talking about bidding, then that's a totally different story and there's nothing wrong with its process.
Not staying home? Seriously, how old are you?
Thanks, I bought my friends and so did 20% of your college peers.
Actually, make it 100% of your peers. Without your tuition money, chances are that you wouldn't have been able to meet all those people that you met in college.
GDI's just don't understand how much helpful it is to be in a house during and after college. Network of people you gain throughout the process is unbelievable.

This is true for ANY *SOCIAL GREEK ORGANIZATION at ANY CHAPTER. (This excludes any of those professional, Major Based ones)
Oh, yeah, no wonder I depledged. It's because I figured out that the GREEK LIFE was not for me. I know that I could have crossed if I stayed and if I wanted it. But guess what? I DIDN'T WANT IT. I didn't want to waste anymore time and money to do something I lost motivation for. And my college life after I crossed? I have a feeling that I will ask the house to be inactive a couple of times just because I don't want to go to events and etc. I don't want to stay up late to watch girls being pledged. But whatever, what I gained from this experience? Wonderful pledge sisters WHOM I STILL TALK TO and HANG OUT OFTEN and will FOREVER (Oh, trust me, OUR friendship WILL be forever, even if we're not in the sorority). I gained enough skills to manage my time, and gained leadership skills. I gained new friends, those who are active in the sorority and THEY LIKE ME, I LOVE THEM, we respect each other and still talk to each other. HECK! I still tell my other friends and whoever to rush for them, because I really think those girls are GENUINE.
HOWEVER, PLEDGING is still TIME-CONSUMING and EXPENSIVE. I spent MORE MONEY than I should have for COLLEGE overall. I was lucky to have been able to have spent time with my other friends A LOT and I did SURPRISINGLY WELL my fall quarter. Too bad nobody in the sorority or my pledge class HAD THE SAME MAJOR as I do, because everybody else is either some kind of science major or business major, which means no friends to help me on my schoolwork and no one to lend me a textbook if I needed one. (but that's just me, just because I happen to have a different major than anybody else). Oh yes, I WAS NEVER HOME, ok I guess you caught me. I was home a couple of times, probably 10% of the time since I was on campus or either at the house.
Pledging will also put you on an emotional rollercoaster, but that's what sororities do when they pledge you. THEY PUSH YOU TO YOUR LIMITS, they only cross strong girls. So if you're emotionally unstable, I don't think this would be for you. My BF totally made the pledging process worse for me, it just freakin sucked. The worst was HOW LONG the pledging process was. OMFG, I swear, if you girls EVER pledge. Make sure you pledge SPRING QUARTER. The shorter the pledging process the LESS DEPRESSING it is. ONLY ONE OF MY PLEDGE SISTERS FINALLY CROSSED last weekend. OMFG JUST LAST WEEKEND. I can't even imagine myself going on for that long. But I am very proud of her. *oh and they had to cross her even though it's only one person because of some reasons...
Ok so what was the point of asking my age? Obviously I am old enough to have pledged.

I blame the sorority for taking all my money for paying for their overpriced installs and dumb car/hotel rentals for whatever unneccessary purposes, messing up my sleep schedule (but i really feel bad for my friends because they all dont sleep until 2-3 or even later and some only eat 1 meal a day). But whatever, they love their sisterhood and I'm happy for them.

Mmmkays well I'm in one, went through pledging and all that. Pledging is different for every sorority, but essentially it's what you make of it. If you don't put any effort or just don't care to then yea you may think it is a waste of time. On the other hand if you do put in the effort then you will gain a lot from and after the experience.
Why does it cost so much? Greek organizations are like their own mini governments. The dues that you pay go to insurance (to cover liability for events), holding your own events (buying supplies, advertise, and more lol), and supporting your nationals (to maintain the overal structure, hold conventions, advertise, etc), and some may even include the cost of lettered apparel.
The point in joining one? Originally when I joined I needed something to do, I didn't join any clubs and I wanted to try something new. My experience with this is probably different that most because I participated in forming a new chapter at my university (yay for us!). Essentially for me it was worth it, I've gained a lot of leadership skills and the girls that I am close to I probably would have never met just because we all run in different circles.
Oh and as a side note, usually Greeks (espeically at our university) have a higher cumulative GPA average than the typical non-Greek person lol. You learn very quickly how to manage you time between this and academics, and between whatever else you have.
