a suggestion i have if you want a better chance of getting into uci... when you apply, select a lesser known major at that university. once you get in, try to transfer to the major you want to get in right away. good luck..

Unweighted GPA all 4 years: 3.8? (sorry I never actually calculated a UC GPA so I don't know it)
SAT I: 2130
SAT II's: 800, 580 (hahha horrible -__-)
it seems that the most common SAT I scores of UCI students is around 1800-1900 though

...Um, 3.89 is a hella good GPA (unweighted).
& extracurriculars help. I dunno if they really matter for UCs though...

And most importantly, how are the people? And *erhem* are there a lot of fob-type asians?

i'm told that you -need- a car in irvine or at least a good friend that does have one
and usually if you attend irvine from anywhere besides socal, the school is almost empty during the weekends since all the students living closeby goes home.
and nothing happens at night

My overall GPA was 3.8
My SAT I score was 1870.
My SAT II scores were 720 and 680.

I think a lot of freshmen do hang out around Campus just cuz it's easier and cuz everyone else is there.
There are places close by (just a walk away), if you want a late night snack though. (In-n-Out, Jack-in-the-Box...to name some.)
There are quite a few "fob-type" asians. But there are also plenty of non-fob-type asians. And there's also plenty of diversity.
I mean, it's mostly asian, but it's not all asian.

Most students do go home over the weekend...including me. When I do stay over the weekend, my dorm is always really quiet. It's weird. x_x It's not what I'm used to. xD
...er, hope that helped someone...^^

Those who say that Irvine has no social life aren't getting out there and making their own fun, they just expect the social life to come to them. I guess you could say the same about all universities.
It's true that there really isn't much to do closely surrounding UCI. It's mostly apartments, condos, little shopping centers, and businesses. It would DEFINITELY be beneficial to have a car, since the OCTA (the public bus system here) is inefficient. However, within walking distance, is a plaza that has Albertson's/Sav-On, Starbucks, and little eateries. Even closer is University Center, which is huge and has great food joints (CHA for Tea, gelato, Japanese food, Chinese food, Mexican food, frozen yogurt, vegetarian, Jack in the Box, In N Out, KFC & Taco Bell, and a Trader Joe's)
There are a lot of FOBs, yeah. I mostly see Korean FOBs though, NOT Chinese/Taiwanese, contrary to popular belief.

yeah. in my dorm hall, most SoCal people go home every weekend. So it's very empty from Friday to Sunday.
At night, the campus is indeed very quiet. Dining halls close by 8. Libraries close at 11 (except during finals week), which by the way REALLY SUCKS.

In high school, my GPA was:
3.83 unweighted (weighted.. i don't remember.. i took 7 AP classes though)
SAT score: 1240
SAT II score: forget, but it wasn't great either
seriously, I think you will get in. UCI is not that hard to get into, like someone mentioned. But this is only because UCI is a relatively new school; prestige is built upon time/old age of the uni. But I think you're pretty safe..
if you don't get in, don't despair. Here is the secret: APPEAL. Admins will say appealing won't work, but seriously, when i was a senior in high school, everyone who appealed to UCI got in. ie: all of my friends that got rejected from UCI, appealed, all 100% got in!!
..Good Luck!
