I've been hearing from some people that Vietnamese music can't really ever get good because the language just sounds ugly.
I never really payed attention because I can understand the language so I can't really tell how different it is. Is it really ugly sounding if you don't understand?
I think Chinese, Korean and Japanese languages even when you don't understand them... the words are very attractive to listen to.
Share your opinions and be honest. I just want to say ahead of time that I hope this thread can be helpful instead of people arguing. Everyone has different opinions so some can say Vietnamese is beautiful while some can say it sounds horrible. Thanks.

Not really.

It's probably because the music industry is not that big or modernized with different genres in Vietnam that it isn't good, not because of the language.

it depends on the person.
some ppl say thai is annoying,but they're doing great in the hiphop industry (for example,the hip hop group thaitanium)
and also,there are ppl that find chinese,japanese and korean's to be..not that pleasant to hear too. so it really depends on the person.
same goes to the cantonese,ppl say it sounds ugly,but i find it cool though,maybe because i speak canto but i really enjoy swearing with it. (seriously,i really do)

yea i think vietnamese sounds pretty bad. i used to know some viet gangster guys and when i sat in their car they would blast up their viet music and i felt the language was so unpleasant. It wasn't the style of the music, it was bad because of the harsh language. i'm heard viet people since songs that normally sound good but end up sounding horrible when sung in viet.

i'm sure that canto doesn't sound that nice either. However, I think that Mandarin is a very beautiful language.

the pronounciation is one thing, alot of times i think viet and cantonese sound worse because they tend to talk real loud, over simple / small things

Vietnamese language and Thai language sounds as if you're closing your nose while you're speaking. No pun intended. But I guess it also depends on the person speaking it. This is just my view as an outsider.

Vietnamese does kinda sound like a duck, lots of squeeky, quacky sounds kind of like how a duck sounds? but it depends on the dialect, some Vietnamese dialects sounds better

it depends on the person speaking it. sometimes i find it really interesting and cool while other times i find it really annoying and the same applies for japanese, chinese, korean, thai, etc.

Tough question. I think people who are unfamiliar with it will find it weird. After all, I have no idea how Mandarin sounds to a non-mandarin-speaking person. I do agree that it's very nasal though. Heck, every language may sound ugly if the person speaking is crass and too loud for everyone's ears, but don't quote me on that xD

I like the sound of Vietnamese!
Obviously though, like any language, it depends on the person.
If you hear someone who's naturally loud (and maybe rude and obnoxious, who knows) speaking (eg)Viet, it's not gonna sound as nice as when you hear a soft spoken person speaking it, right?

my past english teacher thort japanese sounded like ppl swearing
my family thinks korean sounds lyk a made up language
my friends think tat chinese sounds lyk a mixture of both japanese and korean
my mum thinks vietnamese sounds lyk korean - made up lanugage
to me.... i tink tat all languages are beautiful and unique in their own ways =)



@ first i thort vietnamese sounded horrible & really bad.
but bcuz my "gor gor" was vietnamese and he always listened to vietnamese music, it actually wasnt tat bad =)
