OMFG! My brother is such an idiot!

So he was deleting files yesterday and he deleted this file for the volume control on your computer so... I DON'T HAVE ANY VOLUME! Which means I can't listen to any sounds mainly music on my computer! And he also deleted the recycle bin too!

And I need to know how I can recover all of that back.

First, try to use a System Restore to an earlier time.
1) Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.
2) Select "Restore my computer to an earlier time"
3) On the calendar, choose the date that your brother was on your computer (or even earlier).
4) Push Next, and Next.
5) This will restart your computer, and when you log back on your computer it may load up a bit slow.

Second, if that didn't work... to bring back your volume control.
1) Go to Control Panel
2) Open up "Sound and Audio Devices" (or "Sound, Speech, and Audio Devices")
3) And check "Place volume icon in the taskbar"
4) Click OK.

Third, the only way your brother could have deleted the recycling bin from the Desktop is if he played around with the Registry. But just try out the System Restore first..

What exactly did he do to "delete" these things?

Anyways, from what I understand, he must've deleted the driver for your sound card. I went to the Realtek website to look for the driver.

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downlo...etDown=false#AC
(The one below Vista driver!)

Download it and install it and see if that brings it back.

Create a restore point in System Restore just in case if it doesn't.

You might also try looking for the following file

C:\Windows\System32\sndvol32.exe

That's the volume control file. If you don't have it, I'll E-mail it to you. smile.gif

Man none of this is seriously not working. I installed it all but all it does is like restart my computer and it says I need a soundcard. Where can I find a soundcard? I'm desperate! Will I have to go and buy a program or something?

No no, you don't need to buy any programs or any sound cards. A sound card is a piece of hardware that's inside your computer (physically) that allows you to hear audio, which you already have. In order for the sound card to actually function, you need the software, or driver, that basically gives instructions to your computer to use the sound card. From what you said, your brother was deleting files. And maybe when he was deleting files, he might have deleted something that was vital for the sound card to function, which explains why there's no sound or volume control. That's why I thought installing the driver would have fixed it, but it didn't.

I think your best bet is to ask a geek friend to go over your house and see the problem. If he can't figure it out, might as well contact the customer service of the computer's company and tell them the what exactly happened. Sorry can't be of much help. tears.gif

After things are fixed, you can set up your computer to have separate, and passworded, accounts for you and your brother to prevent this from happening again. That's why I do for my computer so no one can delete any files. Plus, it's more privacy.

Yeah. I should probably call my uncle about this later too... when he's not busy. But it all seems so simple.

And when I'm trying to install the driver thing. this message comes up all the time. what does it mean?

In response to your last post:

A While ago, Microsoft saw that sometimes, manufacturers would make drivers that conflict with other manufacturer's drivers. Microsoft saw a money opportunity and decided to introduce "Signed Drivers" Signed drivers are basically drivers that have passed Microsoft's test and "ensures that it will work correctly with your computer". But Microsoft charges companies for this. For this very reason many manufacturers choose not to have signed drivers and instead, tell you blatantly to ignore the warnings.

Double check that the driver is in fact, for Windows 2000/ XP.

I have yet to see a driver render a computer useless, so go ahead and click "Continue Anyway" (If it's for 2000/XP)

Have you tried to "continue anyways" with the installation?

The best solution for any computer problem is to reformat.

But yeah, you probably don't want to do that yet. sweatingbullets.gif
