This tutorial is for most verizon model phones that can recieve music text messaging.
My friend who has cingular was able to also cut ringtones this way (i showed him how wink.gif ) But i dont know how he sent it to his phone

I posted it in another thread, but for people who want to know and might miss that thread. If you guys know other ways to make ringtones. Or maybe even faster easier ways with different programs. Please post your detailed descriptions! And maybe we can get this thread pinned =)

How to cut and add ringtones(razrs, choco, flip choco for sure can do this)

You must have two programs for this:
1.) Audacity 1.3 Beta [for windows 2000/xp/vista click here to install ; For windows 98/ME click here to install]
2.) mp3/wma converter [click here, and on the left click "free mp3 wma converter. Then click on download]

How to cut your ringtone (looks like a lot of info but trust me, once you do it once. Its so easy to make ringtones again after)

once you have the first program. Open it up, then go to "File" then to "open" and choose the song you want to make a ringtone out of. Once you load it, it should look like this (minus the coloring i did =] )

Red box) It will say something like 4400. CHANGE IT to 22050.

Ok. Now you will play the song (play button near top). As you are listening to the song, look at the box where i had marked a neon green arrow pointing. You want to write down the number of the exact moment you want your ringtone to start. So lets say 2 minutes 10 seconds into the song is right when your favorite part goes on. The neon green arrow pointing box should say "130 seconds".

Now take that number and place it in the first box with the fuscia arrow pointing (next to the red box). Its pretty obvious coz it says "Selection start"
In the box next to it you'll see two bubbles above it. You have a choice.
Choice 1.) Click the "End" bubble. Then type in the seconds of when in the song you want the ringtone to end. For example, So we started our imaginary ringtone at 130 seconds. Your favorite part ends at 170 seconds. So put it in! =)
Choice 2.) Click the "Length" bubble. This is the easier one. Most ppl don't care where in the song the ringtone ends so long as its at least 30 secs, or whatever seconds long. So if you just want your ringtone to be 50 seconds long, put in "50". That easy.

Ok, now it should look kinda like this (well depending on your song duh of course =] )

Yellow box.) You'll notice at the time line, it's grayed out. That is your ringtone you choose.
In my example picture. I started it at 2 mins 10 secs (130 seconds) and just made my ringtone 60 seconds in length.

NOW! to PERFECT it! =)
Press play, the player should now only play the gray section. Lets say you were off by a second or two. Or you want it longer. DO NOT adjust it by trying to move the gray area. USE THE FUSCIA part boxes. Change the seconds, lengths, however you need it to. Relisten till you think you got it perfect =D

Brown box.) Once it's all perfected, click that sucker! What that does is clip off everything that isn't your ringtone.

Almost theeeerrreee!

You're ringtone should now look like that!
Go to "File"
Down to "Export as"
and to "wav"
Just save it on your desktop so it's easier to find later.

Once it's done exporting
On to the next program!
Oh yea to remind you. If you cut another ringtone. Close and reopen the program. And make sure you change that number again to 22050

How to turn that ringtone into mp3

Open up your converter program. Go to "File" and open up the ringtone you cut (should be wav file!)

Purple box.) You need your program to say those details, so click on the button in the red box

Brown box.) you want it to be 32 kbit. So slide the thingy till it says it

Dark teal boxes.) Just click them till they match my picture

Green arrows.) Click apply, then press ok....

Once you get to the main part, Click the button "Convert" at the bottom!
You've officially made a ringtone!!!!! If you cant find your now mp3 ringtone, open back your program (the converter) and see where it says "out path" (should be the second box above my purple box in the first pic of the converter program). Thats where they saved the file.

How to send your now awesome customized ringtone to your phone

Go to your email
Open up a email msg
In the "to" box put your phone number including area code @vzwpix.com
EXAMPLE.) 4085551234@vzwpix.com

Attach the ringtone you made (remember, not the wav from the first program, but the file that came out the converter. It should be mp3)

AND SEND! happy.gif

When you recieve the text. Click options on your phone and "save as ringtone"
If you didn't recieve the text, go to vzwpix.com and make an account. Then try again.

Only downside is for ppl without text messaging packs have to pay the fee when they recieve the texts.

Hope this was helpful!

the higher the bit rate, the bigger the size of the file. I believe there's a limit to how big it can be because verizon phones only ring for about 30 sec. so if its too big, it won't allow you to use it as a ringtone. atleast thats how it is on my phone (motorola E815)

it may sound not that great when youve made your final ringtone. but trust me, on the phone it sounds really good. At least i know for my phone it does. this guy i know tells me how he likes it a certain way, that he uses complicated programs to get it a good volume etc etc and he doesnt want me making it for him coz it wouldnt sound right. he sends me one of his ringtones he made and wow. when it came out my phone, sucktacular. i had to remake it.

i have a verizon vx8500 and i made a ringtone, but when i put it on my phone, it sounded much lighter (weaker) than the ringtones that were already on my phone.

if i buy the music essentials kit, can i just save the mp3 file without adjusting the sound quality, since big files wont be sent via text message?

i dont know how to use the music essnetials kit so i cnat really answer how you go about using their program. But you can send larger files to your phone. But the thing is, you wont be able to hold a lot of ringtones if you do. And i dont know what other memory it effects. Like i've sent a 600 soemthing file before and it took it. The tutorial i made should make your files only like 200 max
But you have the chocolate phone right?
thats rieally odd because i made my sister ringtones using the same process and she has the cherry chocolate and it comes out nice and loud. Same for my other friend who has the regular chocolate phone. Mine comes out more louder though just because the speaker on the choco flip is better.

OMG, thank you so much! I've always wanted to learn how to make ringtones.

And the sound is like WOW on my chocolate flip. ohmy.gif When I put it on low, the sound of the ringtone's as loud as default ringtones on high, or maybe even higher!
