A while ago the government here were talking about bringing Mandarin into the Curriculum. That would be an amusing attempt in some of the particularly badly behaved schools.

especially since if you learn to speak the language, you should also know how to read and write, starting with the zhu ying and pin yin and all of that complicated stuff

what I'd like to see is those who are suffering with English when it's their first language take a small interest in Chinese and hope to master it

yeah. You wouldnt believe how many students who - when they leave the schools over here - cannot master grammar or spelling correctly. And for them, English is their first language!

i attend what is a supposedly "specialized highschool" one out of the 8 i believe, and is ranked third. i got into the second ranking one, but it was too far for me to attend so i chose the one im attending now. if i went to the other one i couldve been learning japanese right now T__T

*laughs* Tell me about it...I mean I am german and it never ceases to amaze me. It seems the japanese are still obsessed with everything german. I remember seeing a documentary about Nagano and there was one scene with a sighn saying "Skipiste"...which is german. I stared at the screen unbelieving until the picture changed.

And quite a few j-rock bands put random german words into their songs.
