mellow.gif ok so i'm not gonna say much on this personally but i think he was lucky....

ANYways... my bf (proud VW GTI owner)'s best friend has a beautiful 95 BMW M3

recently bought less than a month saved up two years of hard labor to get his dream car came perfect and yesterday ...

QUOTE
Driving over to my friend's house today I hit a patch of gravel/frost/ice (something slick on the road, whatever it was on there) and my rear end swung out and I pretty much did a 180 and flew off the road into a ravine. I was going about 35mph with my friend in the car when I lost control around the gradual curve, I hit the brakes but by the time my wheels got traction I was in grass and they didn't work. I rolled backwards into the ravine at about 5-10 miles an hour, and managed to take out a few trees on my way down. I called a friend and he towed me out...

Tire/curb marks from where I started sliding backwards into the ditch...

Where it lay originally.

l(O.O)l but when worse comes to worse it was today i was about to go cut my hair with my bf when we got a call from him again...

QUOTE
Ok, this is the biggest bullshit ever. After yesterday's accident, I decide to go get some quotes for the damage. On my way to a body shop in Seattle, going down the road, I see a truck backing out in front of me (50 yards). I was going about 40 mph. He stops before his rear end enters the road, so I assume he sees me and I proceed. Then, right when I'm 10 yards behind him, he starts backing up again, into the road, right into my way. I slam on my brakes and swerve left to avoid him, but he kept backing out because he didn't see me. His tow hitch penetrated my passenger side fender, tore through the b and c pillars all the way back, shattering all the glass including the rear window, and leaving the roof to just hang there. I was not injured severly aside from getting hit with a bunch of glass. Upon seeing he hit me, he then didn't know I was hooked so then he drove 10 feet forward to get off the road, and dragged my car along with him, making the damage even worse. A passerby (who I know, and is a witness) saw the entire thing and he called 911. Police came, it was pretty explanatory the truck driver was at fault, and we exchanged information and I had my car towed to a buddy's garage so nothing would get stolen out of it.

The pictures will explain the damage pretty much, it's definetly totalled now and the insurance company will probably sell it back to me for dirt cheap. Once I figure out if they'll sell it back for really cheap, I'll let you all know if I'll be parting it out.

ph34r.gif A salute to a beautiful car.... 2 days one tragedy (m)(__ __)(m)

all i heard when all his other freidns came was 'WTH WTF WTF THIS IS THE WORSE DAY OF MY LIFE WHY COULD A M3 END UP LIKE THIS'

++++++++++++++++++++++

UPDATE

so he got his citiation in teh mail a couple of days ago 'speeding to failure in stopping an accident'

soemthign liek that which is just complete bs since no cop was even there!!!

the report says that the truck driver was honking his horn the whole time and that my bf's friend... ( this is getitng to much.. i'll call him Z)
well that Z purposely was speeding and ran into the truck

so when he called the cop to ask whats up about it she was apprently out on vacation...

he has crappy health insurance so he hasn't done anything yet but he has major whiplash now... he went to the attorney yesterday and the attorney was telling him that they will get his citation off and will try thier hardst.. they reccommended him to a chiropractor

and now they will try to fight hertz about it ... he has a witness though that saw the whole thing... though hertz doesn't know that @_@

iono we'll see what happens.....

*he's now looking for another m3 e36 btw o_o

Dear god! Thankfully your friend is ok, that is pretty crazy.

On the optimisitic side. Since the truck destroyed the M3 and it was the truck's fault, your friend can basically sue the other driver for property damage, which would usually end up coming out of the truck's insurance. If he starts parting it out, the insurance company will pay him anything, the other insurance company will basically take the whole car, so your friend better not remove anything (except personal belongings), because a appraiser will appraise for the damage, but will not if parts are being stripped off and being sold. As long as he doesn't tell the claims adjuster or appraiser that he was leaving the body shop because he already had damage to the car, the appraiser can't tell, because the damage from the truck already destroyed or hidden the fact that there was previous damage, so you're friend can get more money back.... hopefully your friend can get enough back to buy another BMW or at least enough to get 3/4 of the way there. It depends on the truck's insurance company, if its like one of those cheapy insurance companies, your friend might get screwed over.

I know how your friend must feel right now, i've been through the same way when I crashed my old car... oh man did I miss that car.

Car windows are tempered, meaning they shatter in little-itty bits upon a blow to it. The reason is that if you crash your car, you don't want shards of glass hitting u and killing you.

If your car is totalled, your insurance company would and should pay you back however much the car was worth before the accident. Which would worth a lot more than you selling hte parts....
To be great is to be misunderstood.

That almost sounded like my accident I just had. I just learned that my front brakes were pretty much gone. My car slid, I broke, then my car fishtailed because only the rears griped. I did a complete 180 on the 101 to 880 onramp. I got lucky though and only scraped my bumper on the concrete divider.

Man that sucks, after years of saving up and this happens. It almost seems like God is sending him a message. Do not idolize cars? blink.gif

one of my best friends has that identical car, same year, same color, same cleared corners smile.gif he too seems to have the worst luck with it.. but nowhere near the magnitude at which your friend suffered. Sorry about the loss but hey, insurance should be enough to make it better than before smile.gif

was that supposed to be a smartass comment? I know that's how automotive glass (excluding the windshield of course) shatters. I myself have been in an accident where I have broken a passenger side window, but there was no tint. All I had to say, was I think it is funny that the tint holds the small tinny pieces.

wow, THREE of my friends had car accidents in the PAST MONTH alone. All having to do with wet leaves or some sort of wet surface.

a WRX, Acura, and a Mustang, two were making tight turns but not going all that fast and the back wheels hitting wet leaves, losing traction and the dead weight just flug them.

sorry to hear about what happened to your friend.

O_o

............................

o_o its stupid but good thing he found out that his other firend's dad saw the whole thing o_O

but te truck driver doesn't know that yet..................

woow that sucks.

a friend of mine had a similar situation too..
he got a brand new evo (i know it's not a m3 but still.. hehe) after working for his dad everyday for the past year.. and a week after, he was messing around while he's still not 100% comfortable with stick shift and just completely ruined it. :[

Amen to that.

Trucks can do whatever the f they want. Because they know you do not want to get hit by them. I bet that trucker saw the M3 and stopped and then got impatient and started to back out thinking, "He'll stop for me. I'm a f'ing truck."
