It's my first time going to this section of the forum, but --

I'm currently 19 years old, and a second semester student at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. I'm not really liking my life right now, for a number of reasons which include: I wish I lived closer to my school, since I'm about 80 miles away and I hate having to commute, I hate never being able to hang out with my friends because they are all in San Francisco and I live 80 miles away so it's hard for me to stay attached, I don't like living with my parents because they continute to dictate my life even up until this day, and many other reasons. Therefore, I wanted to hopefully get a student/private loan to move out and into an apartment in San Francisco or something. I've tried applying for student loans, including sallie mae, campus door, wells fargo, bank of america and a few others, but I'm not suprised that I did not get approved. This is because I can't meet their requirement of having a credit worthy cosigner or a coborrower. My parents will not cosign for me, and the friends that I have don't have credit. I've never worked in my life, and of course I don't have credit myself. If I move out into San Francisco, I really believe my life would be better, and atleast I can get a job. Where I live now is a rural area, and there is nowhere to work.

So my question is, is there any alternatives for me? I'm hoping to get a loan of some sort, and I don't mind paying it back. If I move into San Francisco, I'm sure I can get a job to pay it back. I'm hoping theres other people with personal experiences that can help me out.

wow.
i totally understand financial stress.

if your parents wont cosign for you......
any relatives????

maybe talk with your financial conselor.
you are over adult age so you can be your own signer.
but i understand about the cosign and credit thing too.

im currently taking loans on my name but my dad is my signer.
tell your parents that they wont be responsible for paying it back. (thats unless you do well and pay it back yourself)
and that what the loaners really need is their info. just in case you refuse to pay them back.
talk with them.
just dont assume too fast that they wont.
they have to understand it.

um....

GOOD LUCK!!!!
i do really hope that things go your way.
im a 2nd year colleger too.
i understand all them drama.

If you get disowned by your parents, then you will be considered an independent student and qualify for need-based grants.

you're considered "independent" if you're 24 if i remember correct... otherwise they determine your need based on your parent's income.
your best bet is trying to apply for fafsa and calgrant for student loans. your interest rate will be far lower than those commercial banks anyway.

^ yeah but she's under 24. So she can only be considered independent if she doesn't have parents. But she does have parents...so..the only way out of that is to get legally disowned.
