I think it mighttt, but our school doesn't calculate the points by +/-, just straight up A, B, C, D, or F. So you might wanna check with your counselor?
I think it might also depend on by how much you lead no. 2 & 3, so if your GPA is super higher than theirs, I'm sure your GPA won`t drop too much.
Just check with your counselor! I'm sure they'd be happy to help you

what's an A-? anyway, if it's still an "A" then that shouldn't affect your gpa... if they go by the way i think they're going by which is...
A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1... F = 0?? (hmm well i don't go that low so i don't know lol)
so an A is an A... still 4.0 i guess
yay if you end up valedictorian!

Not so in some cases. Maybe her school bases their grading system on a variation of the ones they use in Universities. An A- drops your GPA, about 0.1 or maybe a tad bit more, or less. I'm not quite sure, but 0.1 is approximately there.
@peachiez89
Depending on the lead you built over the other ranks (2nd, 3rd, etc.), that's a factor to consider. Hopefully, you have a buffer in between, so the A- won't affect you that much. Next, that means ranks 2 & 3 had no room for mistakes either, so if they earned similar grades, it could work in your favor. I wouldn't sweat about it too much personally. Good luck in your endeavors of becoming Valedictorian!

I never knew that O-o
I've had A- in my 4.0 total GPA so I didn't know your GPA could drop with A-.

So... What does an A- count for at your school? 4.0 or 3.7? If it's 3.7, then, depending on how your school calculates AP grades (some schools give extra points for AP... mine gave a .2 boost for every one taken) and how far ahead you are in the rankings, your rank may or may not change. If the top 10 people at your school all have pretty much the same grade then every little point counts for a lot.

I have a friend at Duke, and another at UCLA, both of whom said that their GPAs dropped because of an A-. I think that's proof enough. Maybe not so much in other schools, but those..yeah.

Really? I've never heard about that before! Besides like, UCs "holding your place" for one of the UCs in their system if you`re top 4%... which I was sooooooo close to... *twitch* ... O_O! HaHAH. If that top 5% thing is true, woohoo, I'm going to college!
But yeah, I've never heard about that before.. esp. in CA..? & I live in CA, too... :T

I don't think class ranks mean much.. I mean, look. You don't even say anything about it on your app. & unless schools ask for it, as far as I know, they don't really care for it..?
Correct me if I'm wrong, lol

Your class rank tells a lot! Haha, it allows the colleges and Universities to know whether you're in the top 5-10% of your high school. It also determines your eligibility for the ELC program, which for the people in California (and maybe other states?) to have a guaranteed spot in a random UC.

My english teacher told me that... I was like... WTF?!?! I mean.. even though that state law is true, the top 5% are usually getting into a UC anyways.
