The way I see it, women get many benefits nowadays

They have a brighter chance to keep the children if divorce happens not to mention all the properties, monthly alimonies..Have you heard of what Lionel Ritchie's ex wife was asking?..lol..

BTW- No, I don't think marriages are oppressing women..It actually depends on how they handle their own marriages respectively..If I were to do a bit of generalization, the answer would still be no..women nowadays are much too independant to let themselves be oppressed..

i think it depends on both the individual marriage and the culture.

in mainstream american society i would say that it definitely does not. however in some asian countries, for example (maybe more traditional ones) it could be very true.
