I want to buy a digital camera and I need help choosing one. I've never bought one before. Which one would you guys recommend? I was thinking of getting a Sony Cybershot or Canon Powershot. If you could help me, thank you!

I personally love the Canon powershot collection. It depends which powershot you want to get though.

id say go for a canon
if u get a higher model....like a sd550 they take great pictures and are really quick, even with just regular speed memory

everyone in the tech forum seems to favor canon over sony.
i just recently had this problem.
sony cameras seem to have such nice slim designs.
but canon overall got better ratings.

you should try amazon and looking at ppls reviews and the ratings for the cameras
thats what i did
i ended up going with canon

i think if you're on a budget, you can get just as good quality with some fuji/casio/panasonic models. if you want name brand i'd go nikon/canon (more canon than nikon. nikon's slipping nowadays). i'd only get sony if you want good video quality or have a bunch of compatible sony products at home. another good digicam that takes good videos is samsung, but go sony if you really like video. samsung if you want other features like a built in media player.

im not much a fan of kodak or olympus or a few others i havent mentioned, but they tend to provide some decent cameras if you search for them.

If you have the money, I say get a camera with image stabilization. My mom just got the Canon Powershot SD800 IS and the difference between image stabilized pictures and non-stabilized pictures is amazing. Some people say low zoom cameras don't need image stabilization but the truth is any level of optical zoom can benefit from image stabilization, especially if it is a mechanical floating lens like in canon's cameras.

Since I am a camera person and like all my cameras are Canon except for my DSLR...
i recommend CANON hehe

Canon is well known for their cameras and have been for a while...top notch cameras =)
Sony has just started going into the market during digital cameras came out.

Both are stylish though..
so take in to consideration of the preferences, style, needs, costs...

Good luck choosing
