I would suggest just doing a search online for high school study abroad. I studied abroad right after high school in the Netherlands with YFU (Youth for Understanding.) Another company that I looked at was AFS. There are others, too, though both of these are respected organizations. You just need to do a little searching online.

I have been selected for one of the scholarships from YFU to Japan.
I'm going from August 2007 to January 2008... i only have to pay $600 contribution.
EVERYTHING is paid for!!! =)

Good luck!

That's great! Congrats! Scholarships always make things easier.

I bet you're excited and can't wait. I know I was when I went to the Netherlands. I'm also going to be studying abroad this Fall semester in South Korea through my university. I'm so excited and can't wait! I'm also getting a scholarship which will pay for a majority of my costs.

Take full advantage of your time abroad!

Recently, I have been crazy about studying abroad. I am only goingto be a Freshmen in college, so I am hoping that maybe I can go study in Japan, S. Korea, or China for a semester. Umm, has anyone actually gone and can tell us their experience? I am going to be a biology major, hoping to get my pre-medicine requirements... so will this make it harder for me if I go study abroad? I really would like to know because I really really want to study in Japan!!

I've been trying to ask questions in the Studying Abroad in Korea thread a couple of times...
But my question isn't being answered.

Did anyone here go to Korea right after high school? If so how high were your GPA, SAT scores, etc.?

haha i know i've been asking about Germany, but i'm also interested in Korea now..

What's the difference between DSH/DAF tests and ZD/ZMP tests in germany?

DSH is a test to determine if u can study on a german college and visit german courses

ZD is nothing important tongue.gif

^ Thanks ^^

Do you have any idea what I would need to take if I'm going to take pre-college programs (Studienkolleg)?

I thought it was ZD/ZMP.

I see you live in Germany? Are you a student?

You only need to take studienkolleg if your certification is not equivalent to the german Abitur... thats decided by the college u plan on visiting...
For studienkolleg german knowlege of B1 or B2 are required..
there are a bunch of test for those:

B1:
PET, DELF B1, CIE, DELE Nivel incial, CELI 2, Zertifikat des Goethe-Instituts, des ÖSD und TELC: Zertifikat Deutsch (ZD)
UNIcert I, DSD I,

B2:
FCE, DELF B2, DELE Nivel intermedio, CELI 3, TELC Zertifikat Deutsch B2 (früher Zertifikat Deutsch Plus) und Zertifikat Deutsch für den Beruf,
UNIcert II; ÖSD: ÖSD-Mittelstufe Deutsch/B2, TestDaF Stufe 3 (4), Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang Stufe 1 (DSH-1),

I go to school in germany and next month i will graduate =)

^ Well apparently, a high school diploma isn't the same as an Abitur T-T...

Thanks for the info though
I better get some studying done ^^

^I want to study medicine..(lol i know it'll be hard) and i'm thinking of STK Uni Frankfurt because I heard there's a lot of Koreans there (since i'm korean) and i might be able to get some help from korean churches or something.

you take the test for studienkolleg in the university you apply to right? and i heard you take other tests too, like math.. hopefully it won't be as hard ^^;;

are you graduating from high school next month?

woah medicine is really hard
especially since u need to pass dsh 3 for that ^^
i dont really know about how many koreans there are sry ^^

yeah thats right usually u take the studienkolleg at the same university
Because u r taking the M-classes for medicine i dont think u need math knowledge over the average
the hardest part will probably be german unless u r allrdy learning it since several years because u r supposed to write essays and stuff
Overall it is not supposed to be hard but it should just prepare you for your classes later....as long as u r not lazy it will work out somehow

yeah im graduating from gymnasium and getting my abitur ^^
so i can visit a university... but even with that i couldnt study medicine because i would need great marks for that ^^
i dont want to anyways

^ dsh 3 for after the Studienkolleg right? I know i have to take a test after taking the M-course (Feststellungspruefung) and i'm guessing it's a test on everything i learned in the class.

yeah, i'm already taking german classes in school but i know i'll really really have to study hard. i heard there's a speaking, listening, reading and writing part in dsh... sweatingbullets.gif

O.O
i thought getting in Studienkolleg would be easy but i was looking at the application..
ahh all so complicated.

btw what are you studying?

yeah when u do the Feststellungsprüfung u have to be able to speak german on C1 level (= dsh 3)...

After living a year in germany you should be able to do the reading listening writing.. and im not sure if there really is a speaking test

whats so complicatet about the application?

i dont know yet tongue.gif
im thinking about computer science ohmy.gif

like.. if i'm going to only apply for a Studeinkolleg.. i don't need to fill out the part that says "choice of degree course" do i? or maybe i do because i need to tell them i'm taking the M-course?

and.. what exactly is a Staatsexamen?

lol i just have too much questions ^^;;

lol thats typical for germany
they always try to make everything a complicatet as possible
They do need to know that u will take medicine....but for the rest if you are not sure just leave it out if it was important they will ask u again later ...

for some courses u have Staatsexamen instead of normal exams made by ur professor... Staatsexamen are made by the state..at least thats what i think tongue.gif
