Studying Abroad

Since beginning high school, I've really wanted to study abroad (especially in Japan~) for a year, but does anyone know if it'll affect the year you graduate, especially if you go in the midst of your junior year? It's also right in the middle of SATs and college applying, I'm just worried about all of that.
There's the getting accepted first, though, ahaha. Does anybody know of a good program that they've heard of or used themselves?

Hello. It shouldn't affect you. All you would do iss transfer out the classes you took in Japaqn onto your H.S. I would not reccomend it. In my opinion. I'd be more interested in going when in College. I'm currently filling out applications to Yokohama University in Japan and one in Tokyo....err forgot name. If I dont wnd up going there, I'm thinking of Taiwan ands Korea. I have friends there. Good luck. Worery about $$$ and apply for many scholarships.

1) I'm a Singaporean and our education system here's different from the States/Korea . We actually divide our education into 4 parts -
- Primary (Age 7-12*)
- Secondary (Age 13-16*)
- Pre-university (Age 17-18*) OR Polytechnic (Age 17-19*)
- University (Age 20 and counting)
* Students graduate at this age unless they have to retain at any level of education
I'm 17 and I'm studying in a polytechnic . So I'd like to know , at what age do you guys go to University ?
2) Also , I want to know how the grading system goes in the States . Do you guys use GPA upon 4 ?
3) And what's the average GPA you need to score in order to get into a good university ?
As I've mentioned above . I'm 17 this year and I'm currently enrolled in a Business course over in my school . I am interested in studying abroad and I'm looking at either USA or Korea . I need recommendations !
Other than that , I want to know the average cost of going overseas to study ;D
Thanks alot !

1. Usually, students go to college the year that they turn 18. So, if you're born in 1991, you'll most likely be starting college in the fall of 2009.
2. Yeah, 4.0 GPA = A, 3.7 = A-, 3.3 = B+, 3.0 = B, etc. I think this is how it works for most, if not all schools?
3. There is no "average GPA" that you need in order to get into a "good" university. Colleges look at many factors, including your GPA, SATs, extracurriculars, essays, recommendations, etc. Your GPA is only one of those factors. Plus, it also depends what school you're trying to get into.
College is expensive. x___x But you can always apply for financial aid/scholarships! Hm, are you thinking of undergraduate or graduate?
Oh, and I have a question. If I want to study abroad during the summer, which summer is it best to go during? Between freshman and sophomore year or soph and junior?

Hm I think if you apply directly to a school and not through EAP, the credits won't transfer over (directly and/or indirectly) and the classes might not count towards your major

why don't you try something related to the Hospitality Industry..a lot of universities/colleges offer Hospitality Management/International Tourism/Hotel & Resort Management etc. While still in school you get to travel already. After you graduate you'll get more chance to travel while getting decent to good pay.
in our school here in the Philippines we have our Internship 2 (3rd year or 4th year college level) in Singapore for 6 months with pay (SG$ 600 = US$ 424 monthly...tips not yet included..=P..)..

Ohh ! Woah ! Thanks
As for GPA .. Not every schools here use the GPA system . Only a few top schools and polytechnic institutions . It's really sort of complicated because there'll be a group of students here taking A levels while the other group takes their diploma so it's kind of tough to judge who gets into the local Universities .
I haven't really thought of any schools yet . But I'm thinking KUBS . Hmmm .

Thanks for the response! I just feel like it'll be scarier when applying directly to the school rather than through EAP because you won't have EAP buddies to travel with you.
Has anyone applied directly to ICU before?

1) The only thing I know for sure is the academic year for Britain - my term starts at the end of Sept (29th if not counting week zero, 22nd if you are) and ends mid June. My sister follows roughly the same at her uni - beginning of October to mid-june. American schools should start roughly around the same time as their Canadian counterparts so I'm assuming the first week of September to the first week of May - that's a guess by the way =).
2) I'll get back to you on this
