I have a question for anyone living in Germany sweatingbullets.gif

I'm trying to go to a university there... and I heard that most German states require 13 years of school if you want to be accepted to a university.

Since I'll finish high school in the US, I'll only complete 12 years, so I was wondering if anyone knew some cities in Germany where they only require 12 years of school?

Please, if someone can give me some information, it would be great help!!
Thanks in advance ^^

In terms of qualification, you should be okay with a US diploma. Even though rules in the each German state probably differ (not sure about schools), education falls within the control of EU common policy, and a lot of people have no problem studying abroad in england, france, italy, going in between, etc.

you can always contact the german embassy in DC - that's what they're there for wink.gif

I have a question:

Do you think it would be okay if I wanted to do a semester abroad in Paris and then that summer abroad in Korea (Yonsei Uni)?
I'm thinking about doing that my sophmore year. So, my spring semester of sophmore year and then my summer of sophmore year as well.

I'm also considering perhaps doing the summer abroad in Korea at Yonsei my freshmen summer.

My junior summer is kindof out of the question because I want to take advantage of the internship oppurtunities in DC (I'm going to GWU in the fall).

So what are your opinions? Those who have experienced study abroad...?

Thanks.

I live in Tunisia and I'm finishing high-school this year. I wanna study in Korea or Japan.
How can I register to a good university in either of the 2countries, and is there a possiblity for me to get a scholarship?

If you know a reliable web-site that provides more details about all this and allows me to register to a good university (in Japan or Korea), please post the links.
I'm sick of those sites that talk so much without having anything of real use >[

Haha...me again.

lavachefolle, thanks for the info...
Do you actually know someone who went to a University in Germany?? or do you have a website with info for international students? I know college websites have some things, but the info is usually for people trying to get a Master's degree.....

I'm sorry i sound a bit annoying, but i emailed the german embassy and they're not replying back.. and according to my dad, for people who completed only 12 years of school, they need to be in some pre-college program....
T.T he won't believe me about being ok with just a diploma...

lol i just need info with a source so my dad can believe me.

one more thing... for people living in Austria...
I heard you can't get in a high school in germany if you can't fluently speak the language. Is it the same for Austria? Do they allow international students who doesn't know German?

Thank you in advance!! It would help me greatly if someone can answer at least some of these questions sweatingbullets.gif

In the capital: Tunis. Aw I hate it here, seriously, people look so scary crazy.gif
On the other hand, I'd love to live in a country such as Korea or Japan. And that's exactly what I'm tryin' to make happen

DAAD gives information for requirements from all countries outside of Germany. I went into the one for the US and it had a breakdown of what type of high school credits you needed.

Also, wouldn't you have been in school for 13 years if you count kindergarten...

@sweetsmile, depending on where you live, a consulate can probably get back to you faster (a little bit). They have an interest in maintaining relationships with the community whereas as the embassy acts mostly as a diplomatic representative of the government.

I was thinking of just completely studying in Japan for sure, 100% sure. I just want to leave my current university and just go somewhere else. Not study abroad for a short term, completely do my studies somewhere else.

I'd like to do Civil and Environmental Engineering in Japan. I've looked at a few universities in Japan but have no clue how to apply lol.

I'm planning on studying at ANU in Canberra, Australia in Spring '08. I'm getting a little disheartened though because when I went to this networking session where we met past exchange students and fellow exchange students, NO ONE else was going to Canberra...everyone was going to Sydney. And then when I asked native Australians that are currently studying at our school for exchange, they all said Canberra was boring and that there's nothing to do there =/

I was wondering if there's anyone from Canberra who could...I don't know, possibly tell me otherwise? haha.

My PLAN is to study abroad for a year during my third year ('08-'09)- one semester in Hong Kong (at Hong Kong University), and one semester in Taiwan (at National Taiwan University)

I'm still unclear about how selective my school's international education office is, as well as how selective the host universities are. Do any of you have a rough idea?
current...
.book readings for: hk society, hk social policy, social geography, globalization & information society....... fun times.
.tv shows gossip girl; how i met your mother; the office; grey's anatomy; 30 rock
.music kings of leon; late night alumni; the hush sound; slumdog millionaire soundtrack

hehe, I understand you, but if you were living here you'd know for real what Tunisians are like! xp
No seriously, you can hardly find someone who's intellectual, open-minded, funny, or cute... None of that. Most of them don't even know what an iPod is! Neither how to sign up for an e-mail account! crazy.gif
hehe see how retarded they are? tongue.gif And believe me, that's the real Tunisia!

On the other hand, there isn't much in Korea and Japan to complain about smile.gif
I know some Koreans and Japanse; they love their country and I don't need them to tell me why wink.gif

So I wanna know

hey... most people would chose to study in Sydney rather than Canberra cause of the location. Canberra is too boring and it has got nothing to do and it's kinda the quietest state in Australia apart from Tasmania.. as i've studied in Perth, most people just finish their high school there and move to either Melbourne and Sydney.. it's all for the stuff you can do in this two night cities.. (:

I just started my freshman year this spring at a CC but last year for the fall semester I went to Beijing China to study chinese (since my parent's figured I should learn my "ancestral" language) I attended the Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) and I'd definitely recommend this place for anyone who wants to go to China to learn chinese...or go to some of the name brand Uni's there like Beijing University or Qing Hua University since they have language programs that work.

Especially at BLCU...you know that you'll be learning chinese well and that the school also knows english too... since the place is designed for foreigners to learn chinese and for chinese to learn foreign languages...so finding a language partner is easy and possibly find some students to teach them your language and make some money ^^.

The classes were pretty cool, not too hard but it wasn't easy either, the have some nice restaurants on and off campus (heck there's a ktv place on campus)...people were pretty awesome too..and they have all sorts of extracurricular activities, like for me out of curiousity I took the martial arts- long fist program and that was pretty fun biggrin.gif and the University organizes all sorts of field trips to different areas of China like Xi'an where the terracotta warriors are or Inner Mongolia...(both places were really cool).

And there's such a huge international population, you meet people all across the world (my class of 22 was like a mini UN), though admittedly what i hear was that the BLCU population is about 40% Korean (not chinese can you believe it?) haha sleep.gif;;

...not to mention there's an active night life there...(granted nearly all of Beijing's universities and institutes/academies are mushed together into one area...like Beijing's Geological Sciences Uni was across the street of BLCU, QingHua was up the street...and to the (i think it was...) east was the university that HanKyung of Super Junior went to...haha blush.gif so yeah lots of college students in one area...things are bound to be interesting.

It was a pretty fun experience, I'm thinking I might go back again sometime maybe my senior year or after I graduate...someday....haha...

I did a study abroad program in Santander, Spain. I thought of doing one in an asian country, but I decided to go to a european country instead. It was a different experience, especially coming from California. Being surrounded in such a foreign environment was different, but a great learning experience. I trully encourage anyone who has a chance to take the time to study abroad. I love going abroad so much that I'm considering about going again. Only thing is that I'm already done with my undergraduate, but I'm going back for my master's so I will try to see if I can do some more studying abroad.

Just for those who are going, you may want to check out this scholarship. Just go to the website and read up on the requirements. It's called the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship.
