Hey Soompiers,

I'm currently trying really hard to lose weight, and I thought it might be nice to hear your stories for inspiration.

If you have successfully lost 10 or more pounds in the past, or are currently on a successful diet, can you share your story?

Please let us know how much weight you lost, how long it took for you to lose it, and what kind of diet and exercise plan you did.

Thanks in advance!!

------------------------

Actually, two years ago I managed to lose 20 pounds by eating 1200 calories a day and not exercising at all. It took me 4 months I think. But then, due to stress and bingeing, I gained 30 lbs. So yea, that's my story. =/

Please share yours!!!!!!!!!!!! smile.gif

well...
i have tons of yo-yo effects, but that's bcuz after i loose all the weight i think it's okay to start eating like a pig again
but currently i'm on another diet haha

it's been 9days and i've lost 10pounds...
daily, i've been doing 1,000 jump rope + running up 6 flight of stairs right after jump roping [i live on the 6th floor]
and starting 2 days ago i've been jumping 200 more....

that's about all the exercise i do, which only takes 25? mins haha

eating wise, i've cut back on ANYTHING fatty
i do mean ANYTHING,
sugar, wheat~
eating one fat free yogurt a day, and about 2 small portion of food ..
and sometimes i replace an apple+carrots for food..
the first 2 days i took the starving route because it's better to cut food for me that way..

u see why i get yoyo effects hahahaha
but to loose weight it helps! and fast..
i think it's best to eat less + exercise ;o) good luck~

im hoping to loose 40 more lbs~ in the next 3 months?

btw, there's a drink called "sang shik" in korean..
it's just a powder substance that has all nutrition grinded into it so u can mix it with water/milk and it acts as a 'meal'
yea im pretty sure gmc has tons of this 'power' thing, but the korean one taste a LOT better and taste like 'mi sook ga ryu' which i have no idea what it is in english =T

Mine kinda happened w/o any intentions. I played tennis, and had practice from 11 am to 3 pm with my team so i kinda always missed lunch. :/ and it was intense training. so in 2 months i lost 10 lbs. now my stomach shrunk and im not able to grub on like i used to. not the best example or story but.. eh.

I weight about 110lbs. when I was in 7th grade.
Then I lost 10lbs. . . . . . . . . . .

in lke ONE WEEK.
1. i only slept for 2 hours . . . .
2. i only ate 1 banana and glass of milk (together) . . . every day and night = so basically, 3 times a day.
3. stay in a dark room for at least 2 hours every day
4. dance for 2 hours every day (works well, move your hips and stomach a lot too ^^wink.gif

so basically it was lack of sleep and lack of foods.
and it actually worked...

well this all happened when i was very stressed cause of my parents fighting over dumb issues over and over.
and i decided to do the same thing in one week, thinking i'll be okay if i do the same thing over and over sleep.gif;

pretty long story, but i actually lost 10 pounds. and i was upset cause i lost POUNDS AHHHH!!!!
but for people who wants to lose pounds, do that.

but it's bad for your health. . . if you have a weak body, be sure to eat a lot of vitamins while doing this.
cause you can end up dying hehe. i survived . . . . .

i lost about 5-7kgs (13-15pounds, i think) since about November/December last year and have kept it off since mid-Jan...it wasn't easy esp. when i went to China/HK and i ate out every single night...

but i cut back (a lot) on the carbs - no pasta, no potatoes, no pizza (i used to eat heaps and heaps of this stuff) and i only ate very little bread (no white bread at all, only multigrain)...however, my mum made me continue to eat rice every night, which didn't help...also, i didn't eat any lollies or

absolutely NO junk food - even when i went out, i only ate salad or sushi - it wasn't fun esp. when you're friends were pigging out on pasta, pizza, KFC - but i contiually thought about how far i had come and the clothes i could wear and look good in if i just resisted, which luckily worked every time....

i walked as much as i could, whenever and wherever i could...

and i only ate when i was hungry - if i wasn't, i didn't touch food and i had lots and lots of water.

And i always had a good night's rest.

EDIT: there should by a stickied thread about weight

it's VERY unhealthy to lose more than 2lbs in a week and not getting enough nutrients (eg: potassium/calcium/vitamins) in a day will cause you a LOT of problems when you grow older. just wait and see, your bones will be hollow and your heart will be very weak. haha. is that worth it? at all?

i lost a lot of weight throughout the year but I've NEVER STARVED myself. never starve yourself, you're just killing your metabolism. i'd always tell myself that i want to be a "bloated skinny", not a "starving skinny". haha. it worked for me.

the faster you lose weight (eg: by eating an apple every day), the faster you'd gain it all back and MORE when you start eating something other than apples (i've been through this, i lost almost 20 pounds in 2 months but I gained back 30 pounds. Crazy I know.)

i think just by cutting down junk food you'd lose 5-10 pounds. no joke! eat lotsa veggies (they're extremely low in calories like 20 cals a cup for chinese cabbage (siu pak choy. YUMMMMY) to less than 100 cals a cup for other veggies. eats lotsa fruits as it'll make you full and fruits are digested a lot faster than junk food.

and of course exercise. i jog an hour everyday for the past few months and i've lost around 20 pounds. i can eat til i'm bloated but still remain skinny. tongue.gif

google health sites. you'd learn A LOT of FACTS & TIPS on losing weight. and drink lotsa water & milk and get enough sleep.

ps. fad diets are more appealing because of the fast results but honestly you're just wasting your time because you'd gain it back after a while (you'd probably starve yourself until you reach your target am I right? and then you'd feel good and start eating normally again and by then your metabolism is SO slow you'd gain weight EASILY) and have to spend another 2 months losing it. 2 months to lose 20 pounds+ 1 month to gain back 30 pounds+ 3 months to lose 30 pounds = 6 months. If you do it the HEALTHY way, you'd probably lost 8 pounds a month (at the MOST). 8x6= 48 pounds. Well that is if you can lose that much, if you aren't that heavy to begin with, you'd see results even faster. and that's the weight that will never come back (provided you don't start binging on fried/fatty/junk food 24/7) ^^

wait... you mean 8 lbs a MONTH, right? =p

I am trying to do it the slow healthy way this time.

But I just baked chocolate chip cookies today and it was impossible to not eat a lot... *sigh*

well i've been pigging OFF ALOT. but thats besides the point.. but since like last march-april 06 till now.. i've DEF lost over 10+ lbs. i actually lost 9-10lbs by april. i had no idea why though, i think mainly it's because foob proportions are cut down. that's VERY important. and thereafter, i joined a gym & worked out literally EVERYDAY from april-june. i think i worked out for like an hour an a half each day. i spent most of my time on the cardio machines- the elliptical (helps lose alot of calories).

but also, i have this thing where i call it the 'cereal diet'. i personally think it works. it's not the healthiest, but it helped. basically i ate cereal for breakfast & lunch- i guess whenever i was hungry. and then for dinner i ate whatever i wanted. don't stuff your face though. i made my friend do it, and she lost 10lbs in a month.

andddd then you can also go on a cold cut diet. cold cuts like turkey, ham, roast beef. its meat, but it's not fattening. i haven't exactly done that.. but friend's past experience- it worked.

** but the main key point to losing weight is MOTIVATION. seriously, if you're not motivated.. you're not going anywhere. PM me if you wanna see my 'before & after' haha. i just realized how fat i used to be sweatingbullets.gif

I really don't want to show pictures haha xD
so I'm just going to tell it like how it is.

We have this test in our school for PE and the most difficult was always passing the mile for 10:00 mins. for girls and the guys.. around a 7:30. I was one of those girls who always struggled with this, and it always made me so depressed that I couldn't pass. I then though.. "Wow.. I must really be out of shape.." My mom just said I was chubby but my brother (the most honest person in the world which is a pain sometimes) told me I was huge. No doubt about it, I can tell he was telling the truth and he always makes fun of me because I was on the heavy side. My dad didn't seem to mind because he just doesn't care about that stuff (lol!)

I realized that it was my health was on the line. My doctor had told me I was overweight.. (I was glad he didn't say obese) I asked some tips and he always told me to drink juice.. psh. (That was a lie! That juice stuff never works) My grandma had always told me that plums make you go to the restroom more often. I really hated them so I never followed her instructions but when I was forced to, it always worked. I bought a cd player a week later and started walking on the treadmill. Over a month's time I was running around the neighborhood with a huge cd player on my hands or on the treadmill running for 10 mins. I cut off all the junks foods I see (chips, any type of candy, chocolate, whatever else.) I went from 140 pounds to 132 in about 1/2 months.

Even though I don't feel like it was a huge success, it made me feel really good. I got to wear more clothes and it even made me glad to know that I actually can fit into a size Large (sometimes) Now I go to the gym/run/turbo jam every weekend to keep my health up, my eating on the other hand is not the best but I'm going to change. (hopefully) I'm about 135 now and I plan to keep exercising and eating healthy (NO CHOCOLATE AND CHIPS FOR 2 YEARS!!!!) hahah. I learned that if you take a big meal instead of little random meals dring the day, it will make you gain weight. Some other tips are.. Green Tea, Plums, exercise. Just all that good stuff.

sleep.gif I type too much.

i'm fat. hella fat. started out on 198.8 pounds on december 10th.

this past thursday, i weighed in at 175.6 pounds...woot woot.

i'm hella fat, so losing more than 2 pounds per week in the first month (or two in my case) would be normal.

so therefore, my goal of losing 50 pounds in 4 months, is quite realistic (my specific case)

i plan to be down to 170 by the end of next week.

how do i do it?
1) joined bodybuilding.com
2) weight training 3 times a week; full body
3) cardio 6 times a week; 1 intense day; 2 cardio-only day; 3-weak cardio session
4) clean ass diet. clean. super clean. keeping calories above 1500 to feed my metabolism. chicken breast, raw broccoli, oats, protein powder, baby carrots, tuna, natural peanut butter.
5) drink 16-18 cups of water a day
6) eat before and after workouts to fuel a killer workout and to fuel my worn out muscles

no, i do not look all crazy-muscular. hello? i'm fat still. [[of course not]]
i'm korean-female btw....*so not the usual* yeah yeah yeah, i'm an american coddamnit.

anywhos, join the bodybuilding.com community if you need some help and some wise knowledge! forreal forreal!

oohh me me!!! i lost 15 pounds in 3 months.. yeah it was kinda long but at least its healthy (i think) haha... i started last november and during that month, i started eating less and exercising everyday for about and hour and a half... then last december i slowed down exercising and now i dont exercise everyday.cos i just dont have the time.. >.< but i do crunches and those kinda stuff everyday when i wake up... and instead of using the elevator at school, i use the stairs to go to the 8th floor... its 182 steps up and down every mwf.. and on tth, i do the same even if i dont have class there.. i just go with my friends then go back down haha... oh and i also work on my arms by lifting weights... and i dont eat rice and i think i eat less than 1200 calories a day.. i think.. but every once in a while, when the temptation's super strong, i let myself eeat what i want... cos i think restricting yourself or being too strict on a diet doesnt help you at all becasue then all you will think about is eating what you want and in the end, you end up eating more than what you wanted because you couldnt eat the thing that you want.. hahaha

though i lost 15 pounds, im still fat.. haha.. so i'm still hoping that i'll be able to lose more weight... but at least now im not overweight lol.. so just think about being healthy and all that.. and dont pressure yourself to losing a certain amount of pounds in a week or something because then it wouldnt be healthy and it will frustrate you when you dont achieve that goal and you'll end up giving up.... smile.gif

I lost 10 lbs over the past year. I just started paying more attention to my health and got addicted to exercising. My health and my body is really important to me now because I've always been really sick and unable to move. Being able to move and have evergy feels wonderful :3
I read that, in a clinical study, people who were more concerned about losing weight for the overall health benefits rather than for aesthetic reasons were far more successful in losing weight and keeping it off. It's definitely important to gradually change your way of thinking when you're trying to lose weight.
Also, yo-yo dieting isn't good for your health or metabolism. As teenagers, we mostly think that we can do any diets that we want without compromising our health, but it's not true. What we do now really affects our health as adults and elderly people in the future. All that junk food is going to come back and haunt you. There was another study I read that said that many young women in their 20s already started to build up waste in their heart arteries, which would lead to severe health problems in the future, because of their unhealthy lifestyles.

In my senior year of high school, I weighed 265 pounds. I could barely walk up stairs without getting winded. I wore size 44 jeans and spent pretty much all of my spare time eating and watching television. Over the summer before college, I started walking down to the track by my high school and jogging a little. That helped a bit, but I was probably still at about 240 or so when I started college.

While most people gain weight at college, I managed to lose a ton. Even with an all-you-can-eat dining hall, I was still eating considerably less than I had been at home. I started going to the gym every single day to the point where it became a habit and I didn't even have to force myself. Although at the outset it was helpful that one of my friends on my floor would come by my room and drag me down there even when I didn't want to go. By the end of my sophomore year, I was down to 165 pounds.

Over the next couple of years, my weight fluctuated a bit. I got down to as little as 160 and back up to almost 200. By graduation I was holding steady at 175. That's about what I weighed when I first moved into my apartment. The first year I was here, I would eat pizza and Chinese food every week and didn't lose much weight. Then I started to try harder to lose weight and managed to get back down to 165. Starting last summer, I decided to ramp up my efforts and, despite occassional setbacks, have managed to get down to about 143, which is where I am now. Now I go to the gym every day, eat a lot more vegetables, cook all of my meals myself and don't buy any snack food or candy.
