Ok, so for my english assignment, we have to write about hypocrisy against our own race. and I'm white so that's obviously what i have to write about.
I came across an article about the use of a term like "White Pride" and how some see it as wrong and it can be seen as a racist term. But one man actually took this up in court about how he couldn't start an organization for white americans. So that's what I have to write about.
Part of the assignment, was finding out what people of other races thought about the topic. So since there are very few white people here, I figured what better place to ask. So, no matter what your opinion about it is, I would really appreciate feedback because I need a Good Grade on this paper because recommendations for Honors English has just started and I NEED to get in!
Any response is appreciated!
edit----------
I'm not exactly supposed to defend the guy, but rather look at it from both points of view and see the good and the bad, and why we think people think the way the do. As for me, I can see how "White Pride" can be seen as sort of shaky territory when it comes to acceptence and whether it's right or not because I admit it does sound kinda racist. But i see how this guy was offended too. So i need to talk about just about every perspective possible (That's why I need people of other race's opinions)

in this world people will have opinions on whatever you said or do. so for some one to go to court over organizing a group "white pride" is stupid but coming from a different perspective i can see that as being a problem. in this society people are going to pay more attention to white people because they are the majority of the population in the united states. do you see other races as the president of this country?
good look with your paper
my advice is theirs always a double standard for everything not only on white people but other race also. you have the freedom of speech so if that person wanted to organize a freedom to be called white pride so be it. there's more problem in this country then wanting to be "lable"

so basically you need to defend the position of the guy in court? i am white too so I can't help you with what other people think
but maybe I can give you some ideas.... 'white pride', leaving aside whatever connotations it may have, is very vague, and on the same vein so is 'black pride', so you should probably include that in your paper as an example of possible hypocrisy, because despite that both are referring to the color of someone's skin and not an actual country or culture one is accepted as OK by most of society while the other is not. Obviously you could just make an organization for "european americans" or "americans of european descent" and it wouldn't be as controversial as a 'white club', but the fact that that distinction does not exist for a 'black club' could be used an example of hypocrisy
you might want to do something on affirmative action too, you can argue that it should be judged based on socioeconomic factors instead of racial factors so poor white students are not put at a disadvantage compared to richer black students
(by the way not saying I adhere to any of this, just that it'd be arguments you could use)

I guess this is part of their First Amendment Rights. It's their constitutional right of free speech and assembly.
Maybe "white pride" would be a wrong term for the organization...maybe something like NAAWP (National Association for the Advancement of White People)
edit: wow there really is an organization known as the NAAWP

oh yea speaking of organizations/groups mugetsu's post reminded me, BET - black entertainment television
how do you think people would react to WET? probably not very well
(and if people claim that most of TV is "white", you can say that while black stars are frequent on TV channels you'll rarely if ever see white stars on BET)

well i'm asian and i think it's okay
people of every race should be able to take pride in who they are
but when them doing so starts hurting others, it's going too far
