hello to all girls with broad shoulders! biggrin.gif

i understand how you all feel, i have them too..and being an Asian with broad shoulders is even worse haha. Growing up, my relatives always said i was pretty and had big eyes..then as i got older my shoulders got broader, because of genetics or helping on the farm im not sure which caused them or maybe both even, but well i have them now so i cant change anything. So yeah now i usually get two comments from asians. one is that im pretty, second is woah i have really big shoulders, and it hurts a little considering that most asians are tiny small skinny little things, so i felt like a big odd standout. But if you hate your broad shoulders it doesnt do much, noone can be perfect and i realise that my good points far outweigh the bad no matter how annoying my shoulders are. Im lucky because im decent looking and considered quite tall for an asian, and i have a proportionate figure so i look normal even with broad shoulders.

after a while we all know what looks good on us and what doesnt. plus, i think its really important to try to look after your weight because skinny girls with broad shoulders look model-ish. whereas broad shouldered girls that are a little plump will look a little big or at least in the mirror itll make you feel much bigger than u really are anyways, so try to lose weight! I AM!

oh and by the ways, i recently discovered that Japanese guys arent concerned with shoulders at all. Its usually just chinese, korean, malaysian, indonesian kinda..but mostly chinese!! If you watch Japanese dramas/movies you'll see that quite a few gorgeous actresses have really broad shoulders, but theyre really pretty too though hahaaha..
Like the girl from Koizora, and the girl from Hotaru No Hikari/ Cyborg She.

Hmm suggestions of wat to wear...from my own experience, hoodies and hoodie jackets are good. the hood itself makes the line of the shoulders shorter, plus its even better if u wear a zipped jacket unzipped with a sexy v-neck top inside. So then the V-neck takes away the straight line even more. Also with hoodies, the good thing is that with some of them, the stitching is hmm..somewhat curved? so it doesnt emphasise the broad shape of shoulders like some tshirts do.

Also, dressing simple is the best. when you put too much stuff on to look cool or something youll end up looking bigger than u think. Oh and wearing skirts that flare out a little balance your shoulders with your hips more so that it looks more even. Hmm high heels...i alway feel like i look weird with high heels or maybe its because im not a heels person haha

Like what someone else said, try not to slouch....like i do..i need to fix tht habit, i always had a really heavy schoolbag so im totally comfortable and used to slouching...n get angry when im told to sit straight too hahaa, but if im in a professional environment, strangely i am always standing straight. its like a switch...when i know i have to look my best i stand straight n confident, smile etc...and most importantly i think i do it because its good manners. but yeah if im with friends ...yeah haha...

I always thought that if i left my hair down it would cover my shoulders pretty much, but it doesnt work out that way sadly...there is a place where your hair sits, but it kinda emphasises the broadness a little..cuz the shoulders stick out a little too much since ur hair sits near the neck area. So yep hoodies are the best,

for any top, dont button all the way to the top, leave one or a few undone. same with zips..but if you are going for that neat look with the buttons/zips done all the way to the top, then you have to go long to even out the shoulders. meaning..instead of a top, it has to be like a dress length top, n then under it u could possible wear stockings or leggings which makes it look nicer than wearing pants underneath..

OH i just thought of another thing!! shoes!! socks!! ok with shoes, you cant wear chunky shoes, well you can but it makes your legs look shorter which inturn makes you look bigger overall unless ur skinny...then it gives u a kinda cool sporty hip-hop dancy edge. So with shoes, go with skinny shoes. wear tights/stockings..sandals, thongs, those type..and with socks its the same too...you cant wear long socks like japanese schoolgirls unless ur skinny, cuz it makes you look silly fat. the shorter the better..

well either way, no matter how much you plan your outfit, it only does so much. but with people, there are some that dont see your shoulders and some that totally take notice. by worrying about these peoples opinions is your own problem. people say if you cant come to love yourself first, how will others come to love you? but then they also say, such and such completes you. so since noone is perfect enough to love themselves fully, unless theyre very confident people unlike me, so we just have to remember our good points and then realise that in the end it doesnt actually matter all that much. Its just that time and time again because of others, because of the media, we want to look perfect. After a while you learn all the tricks of the trade with clothes, make up, etc and you reach a pinnacle of being more beautiful than uve ever been with all that stuff...then later it wont matter at all anymore. we are all just waiting for our love to come and we want to look our best. go ahead and make yourself up, but dont go over the top n look slutty...dont be too plain..put a little glittery eyeshadow on or a pretty hairclip....but most importantly, dont forget who you are. you can cover imperfections with makeup to some extent, but you cant with your personality..what is perfection? imperfection is the new perfection i say!

what i mean by that is...being perfect is boring..being a little weird in some ways is cute...being a little lazy is funny...but too lazy is just scary...but still funny...laughing out loud like a maniac is what i do..n im mega weirdo as well....n i want to travel to meet the rest of the world!! ..how sad, weirdo coming near you. rolleyes.gif

i wear lots of black (makes things appear smaller) and wife beaters, tees (crew neck, v-neck), tight fitting sweaters. I try to avoid polos and sleeveless. I avoid jackets that are tough and sturdy around the shoulders because this only accentuates them. I don't like halters. I think they make you draw more attention to the shoulders.

I think it's having a big upperbody and it widens extremely at the shoulders. (like the letter V and almost like a swimmer ... if you ever seen Michael Phelps or any one of the professional swimmers out there they all have it. It's a bit disproportionate and sometimes considered unfeminine. Hyolee has.broad shoulders. I think it may not be feminine or cute but has more of a sexy and sporty appeal.)

I have broad shoulders. I've never really thought of it as a bad thing, though. I'm relatively tall for an Asian (5'5) and my shoulders are proportionate to the rest of my body -- large (for an Asian) breasts, wide hips, etc.

.. So I pretty much just wear whatever. V-necks and T-shirts are probably the most flattering, though. Tank tops look okay on me, but spaghetti straps are horrible. Halters can be flattering if it's the right kind. This isn't that great:

But these halters are good:

I also have broad shoulders and its wide as well naturally (not from any physical activities either), so my upper body looks more heavy then my lower body.
Since this is a case, a flow out dress will help the upper body less heavy looking;therefore making the shoulders less broad.
Shoes: I say flats and heels are good as long they aren't chunky. Looking tall and have long legs makes the shoulder looks balance.
Jeans: Flare, not too flare, helps balance the shoulders as well.
Shirts: Ones with the sleeve that doesn't cover the bicep will help the shoulder less broad looking. The neck part should be a V or a U (as long its low)
Sweaters: V necks are the best and try to avoid ones that are short on back length because it will eccentuate the shoulders.
Try find one that fits, not too tight and too baggy.
What else?... hmmh mm
Pm me if i am leaving something out

Have I posted here yet?

Anyways, my shoulders are CRAZY broad from years of swimming and, now, paddling.
But I came to realize that when I stop exercising, the broadness decreases a little and ends up looking strange on me because I'm pretty pear-shaped. So for me, the broad shoulders balances out my hips. I just hate being so broad. Gah. It makes regular T-shirts make me look fatter than I am.

I find that regular T-shirts (like the boy-cut ones...well, the shaped-for-girls ones with the shorter sleeves too actually) SUCK. They make me look like a man. Seriously. I like big jackets/hoodies though.

And personally, (is this weird?) I really like the way I look in bikini tops and sports bras. Haha.

I also have very broad shoulders and it annoys me to no end because sometimes certain things I find REALLY cute don't look good on me simply because of my shoulders, (from the chest down, it would look good). >< I'm pretty tall for an Asian girl at 5'9 and I think that anyone with broad shoulders regardless of height wou- kay, I forgot what I was going to say! haha. ): Blank out. I'll edit this part when I remember.

I think for the taller girls who have broad shoulders who are also very skinny, (Like myself who also has my collarbone and such showing = not attractive) I think halters with medium sized straps look good on us, along with tank tops with a thicker strap (though I find with myself that ones with thinner straps also look fine on me).

However I think one of the worse things about having broad shoulders is that we can't wear alot of strapless things ): For me, it makes me look very ... dumpy in a way and it just looks horrible. It accentuates my shoulders even more.
But I find that if you wear (if its a strapless dress), if the top is more ruffled out or such, it takes the eye away from your broad shoulders and I find it actually looks pretty good!

Hmm what else..... I'm okay with normal tees and such.. and I find that wearing a shirt that has a v or round neck looks fine.

I think that's pretty much it for me haha.

I love V-necks. Since it expose the chest or neck part it doesn't show off your shoulders much

Broad shoulders have been the bane of my existence for as long as I can remember sad.gif . But I've found some ways to make them look a bit better.

Collar shirts with the top 2-3 buttons undone draws draws attention away from the shoulders, and the ones with the shoulder-line sewn closer to the center looks better. When the shoulder-line is too far away from the center (boyfriend-style shirts), I just fill out it, and look like a man! LOL.

The most troubling thing is buying fancy prom-ish dresses, since most are sleeveless/spaghetti strap. Larger straps look better, and I find that wearing a really sparkly/eye-catching necklace that hangs close to where my cleavage *ought* to start, makes the shoulders less noticeable.

I do however, like how underwear/bathing suits look on me. The broad shoulders makes your tummy look much smaller, and as long as the straps aren't too small, and you choose a bra that enhances the cleavage, it can pass off as pretty HOT. One problem with push-up bras is that sometimes (like underneath a sweater), it makes me look more top-heavy, so under those occasions, I wear sport bras.

Oh ya, a cute loose/flowy/droopy sweaters can do wonders sometimes, and if you pair it with short skirts and dark leggings, it'll look more feminine.

Wow. I never knew Asians had broad shoulders....especially Lee Hyori!

Broad shoulders aka football player shoulders run in my family.

What I usually wear to even it out is:

1. Loose tops! I always wear a loose blouse or t-shirt because my waist is tiny and I don't want that to be so obvious against my broad shoulders.
2. If you're wearing a button up t-shirt leave 2/3 buttons unbuttoned.
3. Sweaters and hoodies.
4. Shirt dresses

Trust me wear the four items above and you'll forget that you shoulders are broad and you'll look cute!

I have always had broad shoulders (it runs in my Mum's side of the family) and my torso in general is very broad ( i have a really large ribcage that seems to make anything tight cling to it and make me look like a body builder) but my breasts are quite small so they don't balance it out.

I agree with the two posters above. It is really worth investing in a well tailored shirt (White is classic, and sometimes a vertical stripe/thick pinstripe on white background can make you look taller). But don't buy "boyfriend style" clothes. I know they are really cool, and look great, but they are designed to look over sized on very "willowy" girls. Our broad shoulders will just fill out the seams in the shoulders and make us look Fat.

Searching for ball/prom dresses, don't go for a poofy skirt UNLESS you are going with a 1950's American look bodice/top half. They actually really flattering to broad shoulders, because then they were really into making shoulders a statement and showing them in the most flattering way.

But if you can, get a bias cut dress with a scooped neck and draped look, because the way it will cling to your body will really flatter your shoulders and torso

Skinny jeans ( if you have the legs for them) make people look taller PROVIDING they are tucked into a nice pair of boots. I'm thinking of the heeled, Biker style boots. (remember darker jeans are more slimming)

This year I'm going to go to the Gym to try and tone up my back, I also am taking up yoga/pilates fusion in order to try and improve my posture. I think that once I've done this I will feel more confident about it no matter what I am wearing.

In my opinion broad shoulders look sexy on girls. You should wear off the shoulder tops. Some people say this would make your shoulders look even broader but I think it looks nice. you show off a little skin but not too much. biggrin.gif

btw i have broad shoulders as well

I have broad shoulders and I tend to find that clothes with puffy sleeves only makes my shoulders larger so I would stay away from those

i agree w/ v-neck and wife-beaters, but i actually like the way my arms/shoulders look in halter tops... i find it draws more attention to my neck and elongates the upper body, making my man shoulders appear more proportional ^^". it also helps to wear longer, more fitted tops for the same reason.
definitely avoid tube tops and spaghetti straps which can over-emphasize the shoulders... and boat-neck/off-the-shoulder tops as well.

I find that low (like pretty darn low) v-necks tend to make your shoulders look broader, but I love them anyways because they show off my waist - the only part of my body I actually like. haha. broad shoulders make your waist look smaller, just a hint.

Very quick question for everyone. My senior prom is this year and all the dresses I want are long strapless with sweetheart neck lines. My shoulders are broad and I was wondering if wearing these kind of dress would emphasize my shoulders too much and make me look like a man. I've heard mix reviews with strapless dresses on broadshoulders, but theirs been a few agreements with sweetheart necklines if strapless are must. Not to mention I'm a pretty short petite girl with a wide frame. I'm not fat or anything, everything about me is normal except for my wide frame but I really want to wear a strapless dress to prom
