Skip the highlighted part if you already know about their brief history, how Ka Kui died.
Spoiler
I grew up listening to them, they were the first band that I ever liked. When I was younger, I could sing all of their hit songs without a problem albeit not knowing much about them. Beyond is considered an alternative rock or metal rock band, making music about human rights, politics, peace, and protests, even though Beyond has recorded pop-rock songs and love ballads. It's still touching listening to their songs. Their talent, beautifully written music, message, everything. All I can say is this, Ka Kui was a great man. A genius. A musical revolutionist. A leader. A lover of all things. He could paint a picture in his mind and then describe it through his music. He could grab you with his song, his lyrics, his voice, and make you understand what he is trying to say. He and Beyond fought their way through the brain dead idolized music fare in Hong Kong, and introduced them to real music...Band Sound...Rock. His death..is a HUGE loss plus the way he died is just so GAH.
Beyond is known for their originality. It says a LOT because during their time, majority of singers only did English cover songs whereas Beyond only did ONE cover song which was a tribute to the Father of Cantopop, Sam Hui, who happens to be their hero. Ka Kui wrote 90% of Beyond's songs. In his short music career, Ka kui managed to produce much more hits than any other canto-pop artist. Well, the other 3 members are equally as talented and continued writing songs after the tragic accident. They've also written songs for other artists (eg: Kelly Chen, Faye Wong, etc)
Their 10 albums sold an average of 500,000 copies all over Southeast Asia, which says a lot for a Cantonese band.
ANYWHO, just wondering.
- Who's your favorite member? Mine is Sai Wing (hehe the drummer) and Ka Kui, of course.
- Your favorite song?
My favorite songs (I like their softer side ^^):
Hoi Foot Tin Hung
They performed this song a few months after Ka Kui's death. His brother, Ka Keung sang in his place (In my opinion, no one can ever replace Ka Kui or sing as good as him). Towards the end, all the HK stars at that time (Aaron Kwok, Leon Lai, Jacky Cheung, Anita Mui, Any Lau, etc) went on stage and sang along.
Hoi Foot Tin Hung MV (sung by Ka Kui)
OMG OMG SO OLD SCHOOL. LOL. This has the 1 minute Guitar Solo at the end.
Gwong Fai Sui Yuet
I like this song too.
They ARE a HK legend and to date there isn't a band that is as good & popular (knowing the cantopop industry -__-) so people still look up to them, especially the older generation/aspiring musicians.
