Crumpler, Domke, Kata, Lowepro, National Geographic, and Tamrac are all good I think. Most of them are pretty affordable but I'm not sure ^^;

Best bet for a beginner is Canon or Nikon, whichever you prefer.
They both have affordable cameras that are great for beginners

Find DSLRs? You can find them at electronic stores such as Best Buy. On-line stores include B&H Photo, Adorama, J&R, etc.
I'm selling my used Canon EOS Kiss Digital X with battery grip and lens. If you're interested please PM

you can drop it off at the service center if you want, but it wont mean you'll get it serviced faster.

Well the on-line stores are still the same - I get pretty much all my equipment at B&H Photo or Adorama. And you can go to Wolf Camera or Ritz Camera if you're looking off-line.
Anyway I was procrastinating from writing my essay today (actually I still am until I finish writing this post haha) and I played around with my 1Ds MkIII. I don't know if I'm qualified enough to give a review but I will once I have enough time to spend with the camera. The thing is I got the camera on the 26th in Korea and I became extremely sick the next day until January 5th or so (I was hospitalized but that's another story) and I hardly got to take any pictures in Korea after I got it (which sucked balls).
Well the thing is I played around with it today but only took about 20 shots or so, switching between lenses. I tried it out with a Lensbaby 3G and this is what I got:

If I can give a short review about Lensbabies, I'd have to say they're really creative. You can take cool pictures once you're familiar enough to take advantage of their strengths. But it's really hard to focus on anything with these because first you have to direct the tilting of the outside glass with the springs and lock it into place (the former versions don't even have the locking, so it's even harder). Then you have to focus manually. It took me a good minute to get that shot set up because it was the first time I tried it out. So obviously this won't be the lens that's always in my bag, but I guess it's good for those times when you want to try something different (like a fisheye lens except wilder).
Then I tried the 1Ds MkIII with my Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 because it was an EF mount and this is what I saw through my viewfinder:

I thought it was funny. It has an EF mount but a 1.6x crop. Hmm. Anyway if you zoom in, you can get some pretty wild vignetting.

On a whim, I did a basic focus test with my Tamron and it seems that it's front focusing by just the slightest bit, something that doesn't happen with my 50 1.8.

If it's on warranty, I'd do it right away. If not, I'd see if it really messed up my photos. I can live with a couple mm of off focus as long as it didn't mess up my portraits.

i've seen nikon's d40, and like its functions. what model is canon's equivalent?
nikon is releasing a new beginner d60. does anyone know where this stands alongside with the d40/d40x? is it higher end to it?
