even with the flash? hmmm..... When I'm faced with really bad color environment, I try to see if black and white would make it better. Try it with some higher contrast.

the low contrast/wash out look seems to be the trend now, flat blacks and flat whites
she added that blue tone on purpose =)

Hey guys, whats a relatively good but not too pricy (anything around $500 - 1000?)wide range lens to get for a 400D? my friends birthday is coming up and we're planning to get it for her; right now she's only got the kit lens and one other lens (though not absolutely sure what ><)

If not a lens.. i think possibly a battery grip or a better tripod than the one she's got now, any suggestions?

thanks smile.gif

EF-S 10-22 is good. Also if your range is up to a thousand, the EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 is really good I hear (it's like the L lens in EF-S).

Oh I though the 17-85 was efs. Nevermind then. But the 17-55, 10-22, and the 60mm macro are the best efs lenses.

Ah you're right - I only got that because the kit was so cheap at my school >_<; And I have the 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM as well - it was the second lens I ever got actually. I guess a more correct term is that I am not going to buy EF-S lenses from now on ^^;

I ordered the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L today... But I'm still thinking maybe I should have gotten the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS since it has IS and a wider range, but I couldn't resist the f/2.8...

Also. My Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III has a serious misalignment problem. It's more than one degree tilted to the right when I take horizontal pictures, which is completely unacceptable in a $8000 camera. The problem is that I bought the camera in Korea so it has a Korean warranty which is void here. I took it to Irvine service center anyway but they took the camera in without a question (even though I told them about the Korean warranty). Anyway there's really nothing I can do at this point except wait for the service center at Irvine to work on the camera - but I hear that in Korea they just exchange the body after they confirm the misalignment problem. If Canon USA charges me for the repair, then I'll probably refuse the repair and just ship it to Korea but I hope I can get an exchange here... *crosses fingers*

Seriously disappointed in Canon over this... I was even thinking about just returning the body, getting a 5D and saving oodles of money sleep.gif

Wow another purchase! lol Just get the 24-105 along with the 24-70. Trade in your 1Ds for a 5d and use the extra money left over to pay for the other lens. Do you need the weather sealing and and 22MP? 5d would be plenty and in my opinion a dream to have. Hey, want to buy me one too? rolleyes.gif

Ahahaha. Yeah that was just a momentary insanity thing - the 5D feels like a downgrade from the 40D since it doesn't have the sensor cleaning or all the other new bells and whistles (except for the full frame sensor of course). I guess I shall wait patiently until Photokina! And I'm pretty much stuck with the 1DsMkIII since it was a gift from my father... I can't really sell it. However I did sell the 400D so yay. Now I only have 2 DSLR bodies and one film SLR body ^^;;

^The sensor cleaning is really helpful from what I hear, but honestly, buy yourself some fluid and swabs from your local camera shop and it's much better. Give the swab a couple of drops, go across the filter once, turn the swab over, go over it again, you're done. Takes 30 seconds, and you don't have to be that careful. Just don't do it in the desert, on a windy day, while it snows, when you drank 20 cups of coffee.

The Canon is a bit faster, but the Sigma has a better build. The HSM on the sigma is probably Sigma's quietest. The Sigma is also cheaper.

in my own personal experience [with my friends 10-22 and my sigma 10-20] i've only noticed very minor differences. im very much a fan of USM [canon] and generally stick with USM whenever possible. however, the HSM on the sigma 10-20 really impressed. USM is slightly faster and focus was almost perfect, but HSM was plenty good for my needs, and doesn't lag very far behind.

Considering pop/color, sharpness, focus speed/accuracy... i'd say if canon got a 9/10, then sigma would get an 8.5/10. But that's just been my experience with the sigma. Unless you're hardcore into minute details, you'll be satisfied with the sigma. [and it's much cheaper tooo!]
