Thanks for the input MINI.v! I am gonna go try to look for those ridiculous low prices I've read about. Meanwhile, I would appreciate if more people had some input. I'm very curious because most people use Canon and Nikon and I am debating but also on a very tight budget right now. Wish me luck I can find a Sony DSLR for that cheap >300!

for dslr's, after nikon or canon, i'd say sony and pentax follow suit.
if you're looking for a cheap set, nothin wrong with sony/pentax.
some people do fine with what they have to offer anyways...
depends on how far you wanna go with photography

I'm looking into moving from the P&S Models into the manual line of the Canon A series. I was wondering if any of you could give me suggestions for which model to purchase? biggrin.gif

I know what you mean MINI.v about how it would sound like a scam for that price. Actually Best Buy and Circuit City (maybe some others too but I'm not sure) are doing a clearance for the the Sony Alpha (I am not sure of the exact model, but I think it is the A100K) and making room for the new ones that are coming out. That is why that it is getting so cheap. My friend's friend was lucky enough to buy one for $210 and with a two year warranty with it from Best Buy. If it wasn't for that I wouldn't believe either and would think its a scam.

So far I didn't find one but I am thinking about either the Nikon D40 or Canon XT....or maybe XTi, depending on price. Meanwhile I will still look around at the Best Buy and Circuit City.

Since these days I'm either out with my 5D or my ELAN 7NE (film), I use either Billingham Digital Hadley or Billingham Digital Hadley Pro smile.gif

i got the 200. it's pretty comfortable and easy to swing around when switching out. i like it a lot. i reached my limit though. 30D + 70-200/2.8 IS L + 24-105/4 IS L take up a lot of space. with some good management, i could squeeze in my primes and flash, but it gets pretty tight at that point. only way to make it all work is if i mount my 70-200 when i put it in. haha

aside from the fact that you don't look too professional wearing it, there's nothing bad i have to say about it. just good things

Hi guys!

Whats the best size memory card for these DSLR? If it helps the camera is 10 mp (I think) Whats the average prices for these? The guy at the store was showing me memory cards that were $100+ for some 4GBs. Is this normal/average? I don't want to get ripped off. I'm looking at at least maybe a 2GB but preferably 4GB or more. Also this is coming from a tight budget so the lower or best deal I can get is better. Thanks for all your help guys!!

if you have no cards, and 4GB is your ideal, i'd suggest you buy 2, 2GB cards. not that a 4GB one won't suffice, but if something happens to your card, you'll lose out. if you have 2, at the very least if one goes down, you can use the other.

another advantage is if you don't need 4GB right now, and you're thinking of getting it for later on, you spend less money now buying a 2GB card.

Buying a 4GB card is cheaper in the bigger picture, but the price diff is a matter of dollars. so unless you really need the 4GB, i'd just get the 2GB and expand from it.

xsi's not out in a lot of stores yet. the xti costs ~500, why not just get the xti?

I really don't think you need a $100 CF card. There are good CF cards that'll hit that price range but unless you're not sure you need that kind of speed then you can probably get away with paying much less.

I bought my 4GB CF for $40.

Flash memory is so cheap, SD vs CF shouldn't really be a huge factor. Say your friend has a 2GB SD card... how much do you really save? $25? If your friend doesn't need the new features, then he's paying much more for the Xsi just to save the $25-50 he'd save on memory cards.

i got my hands on a d300 over the weekend for very briefly, and i gotta say i'm very jealous of that lcd screen.
totally amazing, viewing an image on there is like viewing it on the computer screen, so so so sharp...922,000 pixels vs the 230,000 3" lcd screen on the canon
